Standings:The B-Sens are fifth place in the East Division (34 points).
Tuesday, Dec. 28 @ Hershey Bears (Washington Capitals)
The B-Sens play their final road game of 2010 at the Giant Center in Hershey, in a rare Tuesday evening tilt. The B-Sens enter the game seeking their first win in Hershey since Oct. 24, 2009 (a 5-2 Binghamton victory). The teams last met Dec. 4 at the Giant Center, a game in which Braden Holtby made 26 saves to help his team earn a 4-0 shutout victory over the Senators. The Bears are currently without the services of Jay Beagle, Andrew Gordon, and Mathieu Perrault who are all currently on recall to the Bears’ National Hockey League affiliate, the Washington Capitals. In four games against the B-Sens so far this season, Beagle, Gordon and Perrault had combined for 21 points against the B-Sens (six goals, 15 assists).
Friday, Dec. 31 vs. Albany Devils (New Jersey Devils)
The B-Sens welcome the Albany Devils to town Friday for the traditional Binghamton New Year’s Eve game. The meeting will be the third of eight between the two teams this season. The teams were last in action on Dec. 10, a game which saw the B-Sens blank the Devils 5-0. Albany forwards Matt Anderson (11 goals, seven assists) and Vladimir Zharkov (seven goals, 11 assists) are both currently tied for the lead in points for the Devils, however Zharkov is currently on recall to Albany’s NHL parent club, the New Jersey Devils. Albany enters the week with a record of 3-6-0-1 over their last ten games.
Saturday, Jan. 1 @ Charlotte Checkers (Carolina Hurricanes)
Sunday, Jan. 2 @ Charlotte Checkers
The B-Sens make their first ever trip to the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, kicking off 2011 with back-to-back games against the Checkers. In three meetings against Charlotte so far this season, the B-Sens are 1-1-1-0. The Checkers are 7-2-0-1 and have leapt past the Hershey Bears to take possession of third place in the East Division standings with an overall record of 17-10-1-3 (38 points). Charlotte’s Jerome Samson ranks third overall among his AHL peers in scoring with 34 points (17 goals, 17 assists). Samson leads the league in shots on goal with 144. Samson is hoping to find some success pelting the net with pucks as he and his Checkers teammates will likely face B-Sens net minder Barry Brust, who currently leads the league in saves, allowing just 59 goals on 751 shots.
B-Sens rookie forward Colin Greening earned the B-Sens nomination for Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 26.  Greening recorded a goal and an assist in the B-Sens 7-1 win over the Adirondack Phantoms Sunday night.  With his goal over Adirondack, Greening has goals in four straight games which is the longest, currently active goal scoring streak for the B-Sens.  The Cornell University alum enters the week ranked sixth overall on the B-Sens in scoring with 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists), and second among B-Sens rookies.
Frank Lessard amassed four penalty minutes in Sunday’s game versus Adirondack. With that, Lessard surpassed the 2,500 career penalty minutes mark. He is currently the AHL’s all-time leader in penalty minutes with 2,503 in 508 career games.
Corey Locke is fast approaching a career milestone. The four-time AHL all-star is currently four games away from his 500th career AHL game.
B-Sens goaltender Robin Lehner remains in Buffalo, N.Y. with Sweden’s national junior team for the 2011 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship. Sweden defeated Norway yesterday, 7-1 in the Preliminary round, however Lehner did not play. Sweden is set to face Switzerland tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
Have you heard about the Binghamton Senators 7th Man Program? The B-Sens have teamed up with the Magic Paintbrush Project for this special program which increases access for families and individuals with special needs in the Southern Tier community, enabling them to actively participate in the B-Sens hockey experience. For each B-Sens home game, one lucky family receives four tickets to the game, with a special concierge assigned to assist the family and provide accessibility support. Each family is visited by the B-Sens mascot Max and has the opportunity to meet and greet a player post game (schedule permitting). If you or someone you know would be interested in participating in the 7th Man Program please contact the Magic Paintbrush Project at 607-729-5059.
