Binghamton 3   Albany 1

Two first period power play goals led the Binghamton Senators to a 3-1 win over Albany at Pepsi Arena Saturday night.

Following a high sticking major on Albany's Brett Clouthier 14:27 into the contest, Alexandre Giroux banged home a rebound for his second of the year on feeds from Steve Bancroft and Serge Payer at 15:56.

With the assist, Payer extended his point scoring string to four straight games.

Daniel Corso made it 2-0 with his fourth of the season with 1:52 left in the first period.

Payer and Julien Vauclair set up a wide open Corso to the left of River Rats' goaltender Ari Ahonen.

Corso buried the feed into a wide open net with what would prove to be the game winning goal.

Captain Chris Kelly gave the Sens their largest lead of the night when his left wing wrister eluded Ahonen at 12:02 of the middle period.

Jody Hull and Brooks Laich were credited with assists on Kelly's marker.

Steve Kariya spoiled Billy Thompson's bid for a second straight shutout when he lifted a hard wrister over the glove hand of Thompson at 7:33 of the final period.

Thompson finished with 25 saves (49 on the weekend) in his third win of the year.

Ahonen stopped 22 of 25 Binghamton shots in defeat.

The Sens were 2x4 on the power play while perfect on the penalty kill in four chances.

This weekend's wins mark the first back-to-back victories by the Sens since the season-opening five-game winning streak.

Binghamton will look to make it a weekend sweep when they visit Bridgeport in a 4:05 p.m. faceoff Sunday at the Arena at Harbor Yard.
