Binghamton 4   Syracuse 1

On the strength of a franchise-record 22 shots on goal during the second period, the Binghamton Senators scored three times to sprint past the Syracuse Crunch in front of 4,263 fans at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Monday night.

The three goal surge helped the Sens overcame a 1-0 first period deficit on Darrel Scoville’s second of the year at 7:04 with Binghamton’s Dennis Bonvie serving a double minor (roughing and unsportsmanlike misconduct).

Trailing by a goal entering the decisive middle frame, Binghamton unloaded the first 14 shot on goals in the period and finally tied the game on defenseman Christoph Schubert’s right point drive eluded a screened Karl Goehring (39 saves) and got the Sens rolling.

Binghamton took its only lead of the night 5:15 later after fending off a Crunch two-man advantage brought on by a pair of cross-checking calls against the home team.

Josh Langfeld was followed off by Julien Vauclair on successive penalty calls, leaving the Sens down a pair of skaters for 1:04, but weathered the storm and set the stage for the go ahead marker.

Langfeld capped off a two-on-one rush 48 seconds after the Sens returned to full strength when he snapped home his sixth of the season on feeds from Denis Hamel and goaltender Ray Emery (29 saves), his first point since February 15th, 2003, in a 9-0 win over St. John’s.

Hamel added a 5-on-3 power play goal at 16:21, his league-leading 10th goal and 16th point, to put the Sens up 3-1 after forty minutes.

Captain Chris Kelly found the back of the net for the second straight contest just 1:08 into the final period for the final margin.

Binghamton held the league’s best power play unit in check five out of six times, but converted just one of its 10 chances on the man advantage.

With the win, Binghamton jumps back into first place in the East Division with 19 points (8-3-1-2), one point up on second place Hershey.

The Sens are next in action when they host the Albany River Rats in a pair 7:05 p.m. faceoffs Friday and Saturday.  Friday’s game will mark the first ten battles with the most frequent opponent to appear on the Binghamton schedule this season.

Friday is Word of Life Night with approximately 250 tickets remaining for the game.

Fans may purchase tickets for this weekend’s games, and all remaining regular season games, at all Ticketmaster outlets, the Center Ice Team Shop at Metrocenter, the Arena box office, and the Sens executive offices.  Fans can also purchase tickets by phone by calling the Sens hotline at 722-SENS (7367).
