Sens Drop Sixth Straight 4-2

The Hershey Bears built a 4-0 lead through two periods and fended off a third period rally by Binghamton to top the Senators 4-2 at Giant Center Sunday.

The loss extended the Sens’ record losing streak to six games and the club’s road winless streak to nine games (0-7-2).

Brett Clark made the Sens pay on the power play when Charlie Stephens took a tripping call at 11:27 of the opening period.

Clark sent a screened shot past Ray Emery (23 saves in 40 minutes) for his ninth of the year at 12:39 to give the Bears a 1-0 lead after one period.

Hershey got another man-up chance early in the second period and made it 2-0 following a Peter Smrek boarding call.

Pascal Trepanier cleaned up on a rebound to the left of Emery to double their lead just 1:41 into the middle period with Eric Perrin and Steve Brule drawing their second assists of the game.

Ryan Craig netted a pair of goals before the expiration of the second period to put the game out of reach after forty minutes.

Charlie Stephens ruined Tom Lawson’s shutout bid with his 13th of the year, a shot that beat Lawson (26 saves) between the pads at 5:44 of the third period.

The Sens’ rally would fall short despite Steve Bancroft’s power play marker with 2:21 left in the game to draw Binghamton within two.

Binghamton continues its six-game road trip Wednesday night as they visit Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in a battle of teams sharing fifth place in the East Division with 60 points each.

Face off at Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza is set for 7:05 p.m.
