B-SENS ANNOUNCE DETAILS OF PUBLIC SAFETY NIGHT THIS SATURDAY

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators announced today the details of “Public Safety Night” which is set to take place Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.  That night the B-Sens will team up with the East Division rival Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for a pair of games to honor the efforts of their local police and firemen and to help raise money for the American Heart Association.

Members of the Binghamton police and fire departments will take on members of the Wilkes-Barre area police and fire departments at 4:30 p.m. in a special “I-81 Battle of the Badges” game, to raise awareness for and benefit the American Heart Association.  The game takes the place of the “Heart Cup”, an annual ice hockey match between the Binghamton police and fire departments that began in 1985 to help raise money to fight heart disease.

Jim Free of 92.5 WKGB-FM’s “Freezone in the Morning” will serve a celebrity bench coach of the Binghamton team, while Jake Navarro of Froggy 101 (WGGY-FM, Pittston, Pennsylvania) will serve as celebrity bench coach of the Wilkes-Barre area team.  Additionally, Steven “Shimes” Shimer of Cool 100 Oldies will serve as celebrity referee, while Tejay Schwartz of Magic 101.7 will be the game’s P.A. announcer.

Following the charity game, the Senators will host the Penguins at 7:05 p.m. The B-Sens will wear special firefighter themed jerseys, while the Penguins will wear special police themed jerseys.

As part of festivities, the Binghamton Senators Booster Club will play the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Booster Club in a special first intermission game of broom ball.

Also the American Heart Association will have a display on the arena concourse where they will be selling red carnations and 50/50 raffle tickets.

Immediately following the game the B-Sens will auction off their firefighter themed jerseys, with proceeds from the jersey auction benefitting the American Heart Association.

Discount tickets can be purchased for $15 and include admission to both the Battle of the Badges and the B-Sens game.  A portion of each ticket sold through this special offer will be donated to the American Heart Association.  For more information or to purchase tickets fans can contact Jason Camp at 607-722-7367.
