B-SENS WEEKLY RELEASE (WEEK 23) - TWO MORE @ NORFOLK

LAST WEEK: The Binghamton Senators (36-24-5-3, 80 pts.) won three of their four games this past week, including two road victories against Atlantic Division opponents Portland and Worcester, and hold an eight-point lead over Philadelphia for the fourth and final playoff position in the East Division.

TUESDAY, MAR. 10 @ PORTLAND (3-1 W): The B-Sens received contributions from four new players and netminder Jeff Glass turned away 38 of 39 shots to secure the victory at Portland. Binghamton’s first goal came off the stick of newcomer Bryan McGregor, with newly signed Mark Bomersback assisting on the marker. Matt Taormina, who just completed his collegiate career at Providence College, netted the game-winning goal in his first professional game. Denis Hamel closed out the scoring for the B-Sens with a power-play marker off a feed from Matt Pope.

WEDNESDAY, MAR. 11 @ WORCESTER (5-2 W): After allowing an early goal by Ryan Vesce, the B-Sens exploded for four goals in the middle period which tied a season high for goals in a period. Zack Smith struck just 28 seconds into the period for his 19th of the season. Jarrett Konkle potted his first AHL goal off a feed from Denis Hamel. Matt Pope netted the game-winning goal less than one minute later with Hamel getting his second assist of the night. Veteran Marc Cavosie capped the four-goal period with his ninth of the season. Left-winger Greg Mauldin added the final goal, unassisted, in the third period. Jeff Glass made 37 saves for his second win in as many nights. With the win, the B-Sens sealed a season-sweep against the Atlantic Division (6-0-0-0).

FRIDAY, MAR. 13 vs. NORFOLK (6-2 W): The Senators returned to home ice from their six-game road trip and rolled to a 6-2 victory over the Admirals. A total of 12 Senators ended the night with at least one point. Aaron Slattengren, playing in his first game with Binghamton following his loan from Portland, scored one goal and added one assist to earn first-star honors. Denis Hamel and Greg Mauldin also finished with one goal and one assist each. Matt Pope scored in his second straight game for the B-Sens. Even the goaltender chipped in on offense with Jeff Glass notching an assist on the opening goal of the game.

SATURDAY, MAR. 14 vs. NORFOLK (5-2 L): The Admirals turned the tables on the B-Sens Saturday night, scoring four goals in the third period to spoil Binghamton’s attempt at a four-win week. Greg Mauldin buried both goals for Binghamton, giving the left-winger his second two-goal game of the season. Peter Regin, who was returned from Ottawa following a two-week stint with the parent club, collected two assists in his first game back to extend his point streak to 10 games (6+11).

THIS WEEK: The B-Sens hit the road for three divisional games this week, including two tilts against the Norfolk Admirals (27-34-3-5, 62 pts.) on Wednesday night and Friday night. Binghamton then travels north to Philadelphia for a Saturday contest against the Phantoms (34-27-2-2, 72 pts.) which will be the last visit by the B-Sens to the Wachovia Spectrum to play Philadelphia.
