THIS WEEK…
Friday, Dec. 10 vs. Albany Devils (New Jersey Devils)
The B-Sens will host the Albany Devils for the first time in the 2010-11 American Hockey League regular season. The teams met for the first time Nov. 27 in Albany, where the B-Sens fell by a score of 4-3. The B-Sens scored two of their three goals against the Devils with the man advantage. The Devils are currently ranked 29 out of 30 AHL teams on the penalty kill having allowed 33 goals in 129 attempts (74.4%). The match-up is very important to both teams, as Albany enters the week trailing the B-Sens in the East Division standings by a single point (11-13-0-0, 22 points).
Saturday, Dec. 11 vs. Rochester Americans (Florida Panthers)
Sunday, Dec. 12 @ Rochester Americans
The B-Sens round out their week with a home-and-home series versus the North Division’s Amerks. The teams met for the first of eight meetings this season back on Nov. 10 – a 6-4 B-Sens loss. Rochester’s leading scorer Michal Repik (4+21=25) notched three points against the Senators scoring a goal and adding two assists in the first match-up between the teams. The Amerks added verteran right wing, Bates Battaglia to the roster today, signing the forward to a professional try-out contract. Battaglia has 202 career American Hockey League points (70+132) in 271 games played.
SENS SNIPPETS…
In case you missed it, B-Sens rookie forward Bobby Butler was named the Reebok/AHL Rookie of the Month for November. In 14 games during a busy month for the B-Sens, Butler scored nine goals – including four game-winners – and added six assists for 15 points along with a plus-6 rating. Butler, currently on recall to Ottawa, is tied for first among all AHL players in goals (15), is ranked first overall in game-winning goals (five), and is first among all AHL rookies in points (15+8=23).
B-SENS BRINGING IT HOME TO THE COMMUNITY…
B-Sens forward Cody Bass has spearheaded two special fundraisers for the B-Sens’ home games Dec. 10 versus the Albany Devils and Dec. 11 versus the Rochester Americans in memory of Ottawa Senators’ assistant coach Luke Richardson’s 14-year-old daughter Daron, who died after trying to commit suicide in the family home.
Saturday, Dec. 11 as the B-Sens host Rochester, a silent auction will be held. Fans have the opportunity to bid on a variety of items at auction tables located on the main concourse of the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena through the second intermission of the game. Money raised in the auction will be donated to the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health and the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier.
