BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators announced today that this Sunday, March 7 they will recognize 2010 Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame inductees Daniel Lacroix and Tom Mitchell.
Lacroix and Mitchell will be formally inducted into the Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame in an ice-level ceremony at 5 p.m., just prior to the B-Sens game versus the Syracuse Crunch. Both inductees will be present for the ceremony.
Lacroix and Mitchell will then sign autographs during the first intermission on the main concourse of the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
A special Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame reception to honor the Class of 2010, sponsored by American Food & Vending, will take place post game in the Arena Club on the third floor of the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The reception will include light hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, and the opportunity to meet and greet the Class of 2010 and other members of the Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame. A ticket is not required to attend the reception.
Lacroix was selected by the New York Rangers 31st overall in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. In five seasons with the Binghamton Rangers, Lacroix recorded 164 points and amassed 1,074 penalty minutes. He spent parts of seven seasons in the NHL with the New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders. In 188 NHL games, he amassed 379 penalty minutes. Lacroix currently serves as assistant coach of the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs.
Mitchell has a strong junior and professional hockey background, however his greatest contributions have come from the front office where he has been general manager of the Binghamton Whalers and Rangers. Mitchell currently serves as the Executive vice-president of operations for the Binghamton Senators. He was also instrumental in creating the Broome Sports Foundation which among many other worthwhile activities, has created a scholarship in memory of Tom's young son Tommy. More than $75,000 has been raised to further the college educations of local student athletes.
With the additions of Lacroix and Mitchell, the Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame will have 31 members. Included in its membership are former Broome Dusters and Binghamton Whalers goaltender Ken Holland, Broome Dusters founder and owner Jim Matthews and Binghamton Whalers center and 1982-83 American Hockey League most valuable player Ross Yates.
