THIS WEEK…

Wednesday, Feb. 24 vs. Norfolk Admirals (Tampa Bay Lightning)
Saturday, Feb. 27 vs. Norfolk Admirals

The Norfolk Admirals travel to Binghamton, N.Y. for two games this week versus the East Division rival B-Sens. Binghamton leads the season series 3-2 and has won their past two games versus the Admirals. Dec. 19 in Norfolk the B-Sens defeated the Ads 5-4. In Binghamton Dec. 31 the B-Sens walked away with a 3-2 victory. Norfolk enters the week riding a hot streak, having won 13 of their last 17 games. The Admirals hold a record of 8-2 in their last ten road contests. Binghamton is hopeful to see a return this week of forwards Denis Hamel, and potentially Kaspars Daugavins. Both have registered seven points in five games versus the Admirals; Hamel with three goals, four assists and Daugavins with four goals and three assists.

Friday, Feb. 26 vs. Providence Bruins (Boston Bruins)

The B-Sens play the Providence Bruins of the Atlantic Division for the first time of the 2009-10 season. All time versus the Bruins the B-Sens are 5-6-0-1, holding a 3-2-0-1 record on home ice. The Bruins are ranked sixth overall in the Atlantic with a record of 28-27-3-0 (59 points). The B-Sens offense is hoping to solve goaltender Dany Sabourin. Sabourin is ranked third overall in the American Hockey League in saves allowing only 103 goals on 1,244 shots. Bruins defenseman Andy Wozniewski is tied for fifth overall in the AHL among defensemen in scoring. Wozniewski has nine goals and 28 assists for 37 points in 53 games played. Only four members of the B-Sens rank higher in points. B-Sens’ blue liner Derek Smith is tied for 11th overall in the league among defensemen with six goals and 25 assists for 31 points in 48 games played.

Sunday, Feb. 28 @ Rochester Americans (Florida Panthers)

Sunday the B-Sens travel to the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y. for a matinee tilt, the eighth of ten meetings between these two teams. Although the B-Sens are only 2-5 overall against Rochester, the last time the two teams met the B-Sens cruised to a 5-4 victory. Rochester enters the week having gone 3-7 in their last ten games and 4-6 in their last ten road games. The Amerks will look to stifle the B-Sens power play. Seven of the 21 (33.3 %) goals the B-Sens have scored against the Amerks have come on the power play. Forwards Zack Smith (one goal, three assists) and Martin St. Pierre (four assists) have each registered four points with the man advantage versus Rochester.

SENS SNIPPITS

Martin St. Pierre earned the nod as the B-Sens’ nominee for Reebok/AHL Player of the week. St. Pierre recorded two goals and two assists in three games last week, including two goals Friday, Feb. 19 versus Worcester (a 4-3 Sharks victory).  St. Pierre is tied with forward Ryan Keller for the lead in points on the B-Sens with 48 (17 goals, 31 assists in 51 games played).
