B-SENS RALLY COMES UP SHORT

BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Senators rally came up short as they fell 5-4 in overtime to the visiting Toronto Marlies.  Despite being down 3-1 just over halfway through the second period, the B-Sens came alive off three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead with less than 10 minutes to play in the third period.  However, Stuart Percy scored his second power-play goal of the game with less than eight minutes to play to force the overtime period.

Percy opened the scoring 9:35 into the first period when he blasted home a shot from the point off an assist from T.J. Brennan.  The score remained 1-0 heading into the first intermission as Andrew Hammond stopped 10 of 11 Marlies shots while Drew MacIntyre turned away all seven Binghamton chances.

Buddy Robinson scored his first of two goals 2:31 into the middle frame to even the score at one apiece.  Shane Prince carried the puck behind MacIntyre’s net where he fed Robinson sitting alone in front.  Robinson one-timed the puck over MacIntyre’s right shoulder for his 12th goal of the season.

Toronto retook the lead less than eight minutes later when Jerred Smithson pushed home his second of the year after Hammond misplayed a puck on his crease.  Just over two minutes later, it was Sam Carrick who capitalized on another Hammond miscue to push the score to 3-1.

Robinson managed to cut the Marlies lead to 3-2 at the 14:57 mark of the second, sending Binghamton to the locker room down a goal.

Wacey Hamilton tied the game 3-3 4:59 into the third period when he used some nifty stick handling to carry the puck past the Marlies defense and over MacIntyre for his 4th tally of the year.  Just over one minute later, David Dziurzynski redirected a shot from Derek Grant to the back of the cage to make the score 4-3 and give Binghamton its first lead of the night.

Toronto used a five-on-three man advantage to tie things up on Percy’s second of the night to force overtime before Brennan scored the game-winning goal 2:50 into the extra period to give the Marlies the bonus point.

Despite the loss, Binghamton regained the third seed in the Eastern Conference.  A regulation win Friday gives the B-Sens their first East Division title since the 2004-05 season.

Binghamton returns to home ice Friday and Saturday to round out their regular season. First, the B-Sens welcome East Division rivals, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, on Friday for a 7:05p.m. matchup. On Saturday Binghamton will play their last regular season game against the Norfolk Admirals at 7:05p.m. Tickets are available by calling the Binghamton Senators Executive Office at (607) 722-7367 or stopping in between 9:00a.m. and 5:30p.m.  Fans can also purchase tickets through the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets during normal business hours by visiting www.ticketmaster.com or at 1-800-745-3000.
