Sens Drop Heartbreaker to Crunch 4-3

SYRACUSE, NY – For the second straight night the B-Sens squandered a two-goal lead heading into the final period of play, this time falling 4-3 in Syracuse to the Crunch.  Vladislav Namestnikov notched his 17th goal of the season at 17:18 of the final period to give Syracuse their lone lead of the game and the 4-3 victory.  Andrew Hammond dropped his fourth consecutive game stopping 23 of 27 shots faced.

The B-Sens opened the scoring 3:15 into the first period on the power-play.  With Syracuse’s Tanner Richard sitting for hooking Shane Prince beat Crunch netminder Kristers Gudlevskis unassisted for his 17th goal of the year.  Matt Puempel scored on the man advantage for Binghamton 14:35 into the period and sent the Sens into the first intermission up 2-0.  Binghamton outshot Syracuse 15-5 through the first 20 minutes of play.

Syracuse drew to within a goal at 8:18 of the second period when Cedric Paquette took a feed from Namestnikov and bested Hammond on the power-play moving the score to 2-1.  Less than five minutes later Binghamton returned its two-goal lead when Stephane Da Costa chipped home a loose puck from a rebound off of a Puempel shot.  The B-Sens carried the 3-1 advantage into the final intermission with a 28-15 shots on goal advantage.

Philippe Paradis scored 7:42 into the final frame on the power-play to once again cut the Sens lead to one goal.  Just over five minutes later Brett Connolly tied the game at 3-3 when he rushed the net and put home a rebound at 12:59 of the period.  Namestnikov beat Hammond with a wrist shot from the slot with less than three minutes remaining to give the Crunch the 4-3 victory.

Da Costa and Puempel both finished with a goal and an assist to lead Binghamton while Connolly and Namestnikov countered for Syracuse with a goal and a helper apiece.  Gudlevskis finished with 30 saves on 33 shots faced to earn his 12th win of the season.
