B-Sens 2nd Period Rally Not Enough, Fall 7-4 in Hershey

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Binghamton fell 7-4 to the Hershey Bears extending the Sens losing streak to seven straight games.  Both teams combined for 143 penalty minutes, but the home team managed to notch three third period goals to pull away for the victory.

Hershey grabbed the early lead when Stanislav Galiev put a power-play strike past Binghamton net minder Andrew Hammond just 1:20 into the contest.  Binghamton evened the score at 11:56 when Mark Stone put a shorthanded goal past Bears goaltender Michal Neuvirth.  However, Julien Brouillette tallied his first of two goals on the night with less than three minutes remaining to send the hosts to the locker room with a 2-1 lead.

The Senators and Bears combined for five goals in the middle frame. The first came from Hershey’s Matt Watkins under one minute into play to extend the Bears lead to 3-1.  Binghamton rallied with three unanswered goals in the frame including Danny New’s first goal of the season since being recalled from the Elmira Jackals at 6:16 to cut the Bears lead to 3-2.  Just over two minutes later, following a Michael Latta elbowing penalty which ended his night, Cole Schneider added two straight power-play goals for Binghamton giving them the 4-3 lead. Brouillette’s second goal of the game tied things up with less than two minutes to play sending the teams tied going into the final intermission.

Hershey took control of the final 20 minutes of play scoring three goals to put the game away.  Brandon Segal recorded his third goal of the season off a feed from Cameron Schilling 3:56 into the final frame giving the Bears the 5-4 lead.  Less than three minutes later, Nathan Walker beat Hammond to extend the lead to 6-4 before Ryan Stoa put a backbreaker in just over one minute later moving the final score to 7-4.

Watkins finished with a goal and two assists for Hershey while Nicolas Deschamps, Stoa, Brouillette and Segal all finished with two point nights.  Schneider paced the B-Sens with two goals scored while Andre Petersson chipped in two assists and Stone finished with a goal and an assist to lead the B-Sens.  Hammond finished the night allowing seven goals on 41 Bears shots while Neuvirth finished with 29 saves to earn the victory.  Both teams converted twice on its man advantage opportunities.

The B-Sens will look to end its seven game losing streak when they travel to Syracuse next Friday to face the Crunch in a 7:00p.m. matchup.  Binghamton will return to home ice the following night when they welcome the Albany Devils in a 7:05p.m. contest at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.  Tickets are available by calling the Binghamton Senators Executive Office at (607) 722-7367 or stopping in between 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.  Fans can also purchase tickets through the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets during normal business hours by visiting www.ticketmaster.com or at 1-800-745-3000.
