B-SENS WIN STREAK SNAPPED AFTER 5-2 LOSS IN HERSHEY

The Hershey Bears road a three-goal offensive explosion to a 5-2 win over the visiting Binghamton Senators efficiently snapping the B-Sens seven-game win streak.  Hershey managed three first period goals in a span of 1:37, and Philipp Grubauer played strong between the pipes for the home team stopping 29 of 31 Senators shots.  Nathan Lawson overcame his rough first 20 minutes of play ending with 35 saves on 40 Bears chances but ultimately suffered his second loss of the year.

Casey Wellman started things off for the Bears beating Lawson 11:17 into the opening period off assists from Jeff Taffe and Nathan Walker.  Just 30 seconds later, Dmitry Orlov extended Hershey’s lead before Peter LeBlanc made it 3-0 at the 12:54 mark of the first period.  Grubauer stopped all 12 B-Sens shots faced in the period while Lawson managed to turn away 10 of 13 Hershey tries.

Binghamton cut the Bears lead to two goals when Matt Puempel received a feed from Mark Stone and put the B-Sens on the board at the 17:30 spot of the middle frame.  The second period brought few chances for either team after Puempel’s fifth score of the year sending the teams to their dressing rooms with the Bears holding a 3-1 lead.

Stone drew the visitors within a goal just 5:52 into the final period after time receiving a feed from Puempel off a long outlet pass from Lawson.  However, penalties plagued the B-Sens the remainder of the game as they were whistled for all three infractions during the third period.  Brandon Segal pushed the score to 4-2 11:13 into the period off a pass from Derek Whitmore before Julien Brouilette put the game away at 16:49 with his 5-on-3 power-play tally.

Puempel and Stone both finished with a goal and an assist for Binghamton who lost for the first time since its 3-1 defeat against Adirondack in Glens Falls on November 1.  Lawson dropped to 8-2-0 for the year with the loss while Grubauer improved to 4-3-1 with the victory.

The teams will faceoff again tomorrow evening at the Giant Center at a 5:00 p.m. puck drop.  Binghamton fans can tune to 96.9 FM or 690 AM to hear the voice of the Binghamton Senators, Grady Whittenburg, with all the live action.
