BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Despite being outshot by the visiting Syracuse Crunch 44 to 21, five different Binghamton Senators would notch two points or more to drop the Crunch 6-3. Andre Benoit (one goal, two assists), Kaspars Daugavins (two goals, one assist), Ryan Potulny (one goal, two assists) and Derek Smith (three assists) each had three points. Jim O’Brien added two (one goal, one assist) and goaltender Barry Brust made 41 saves to improve to 28-17-1.
The Crunch took an early 1-0 lead just 3:48 into the game as Maxime Macenauer rifled a shot over the shoulder of Barry Brust, earning his eighth goal of the season. That would be the one and only lead that Syracuse would hold for the entire evening.
Benoit put Binghamton on the board as he wristed a shot from the left point which beat Crunch netminder J.P. Levasseur with 1:49 left in the opening stanza, tying the score at one apiece.
The B-Sens built on their lead tallying a pair of goals in the first five minutes of the middle period. O’Brien hit the net on the power play just 25 seconds into the second to put Binghamton on top, 2-1. Daugavins gave the B-Sens a 3-1 lead just shy of the five minute mark. It was the forward’s 18th of the season and his 100th career AHL point.
The Crunch crept back within one at the 10:34 mark when Matt Beleskey beat Brust, banging a quick shot in blocker side. Binghamton answered quickly though as Potulny notched his 20th of the season just over a minute later to put the B-Sens back on top by two.
Daugavins’ second of the game came with just 2:46 left in the period. Potulny threaded a pass through traffic to Daugavins, who then buried his shot back door to increase the B-Sens lead to three. Crunch leading scorer Patrick Maroon however sent his team off to the dressing room for the second intermission trailing by only a pair of goals as he beat Brust for his 20th of the season with just 10.4 seconds left on the clock.
B-Sens captain Ryan Keller notched his team-leading 29th goal of the season 2:18 into the final period of regulation to round out the scoring and send Syracuse packing.
