BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators welcomed Atlantic Division leaders, the Manchester Monarchs to town Saturday night. The Monarchs having played back-to-back games in Charlotte had put in a long day of travel in order to reach the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena, but any fatigue present seemed to melt away as they rallied to score a pair of third period goals and ultimately defeat the B-Sens by a score of 4-3.
The Monarchs struck quick, jumping to the lead just 53 seconds into the game. Marc-Andre Cliche’s quick shot from the left circle beat Robin Lehner, who returned to goal for Binghamton after being re-assigned by the Ottawa Senators earlier in the day.
At the 12:37 mark, Ryan Keller tied it up as his quick wrister from the right circle cleanly beat Martin Jones. D-men Craig Schira and Derek Smith earned the helpers.
The teams went on to trade a pair of goals once more in the second period. Just 19 seconds in David Dziurzynski put the B-Sens back on top 2-1 with his fourth goal in five games, assisted by Erik Condra and Jim O’Brien. Manchester answered back just past the midway point as Andrei Loktionov’s unassisted tally knotted things up at two.
Binghamton reclaimed the lead at 13:51 as Roman Wick set up Bobby Butler, who flipped his team leading 19th goal top shelf on Jones, all as he got tangled up with a Monarch and fell to the ice.
Manchester stormed back in the final period. Corey Elkins began the comeback as he tied the score at three at 5:24, before David Meckler put the game away in the final five minutes of regulation.
The B-Sens return to action tomorrow as they host the Hershey Bears. Tickets are $17.75 for side seating, $16.75 for end seating.
