The Binghamton Senators dropped their second straight regulation game with a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Friday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
The Sound Tigers controlled the opening period with a 15-5 shot advantage over Binghamton and buried their first marker at 8:48. Bridgeport advanced into the B-Sens zone on a 3-on-2 rush when Rob Hennigar slid a pass to Andrew MacDonald at the right faceoff circle. MacDonald snapped a wrist shot past netminder Brian Elliott on the glove side.
Kurtis McLean gave Bridgeport a 2-0 advantage with a short-handed goal late in the first period.
Winger Ryan Shannon narrowed the lead to one goal with a power-play tally in the early stages of the second period. Shannon snapped a wrist shot from the right point which bounced off of netminder Peter Mannino’s shoulder and into the corner of the cage. Shannon extended his point streak to five games (3+3), as did defenseman Brendan Bell, who assisted on the goal.
Binghamton’s leading goal scorer Zack Smith took advantage of a misplayed puck by Mannino at 6:14 to tie the game at 2. Smith tapped home the loose puck at the left post to notch his sixth marker of the year.
Winger Tim Jackman buried the game-winning goal at 19:49 of the second period as the Sound Tigers skated on a 5-on-3 power play. With just two seconds remaining on the two-man advantage, Jackman fired a shot from the slot into the top right corner of the net over Elliott’s glove.
Bridgeport added another power-play tally to cap the scoring and take a three-point lead over Binghamton in the East Division.
The B-Sens get another crack at Bridgeport as the two teams’ suit up again on Saturday night with a 7:05 p.m. puck drop scheduled.
