WILKES-BARRE TWP., P.A. – The B-Sens concluded a stretch of four games in five nights at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza Sunday afternoon as they squared off against the East Division rival Penguins. Although the B-Sens outshot Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 32 to 21, Brad Thiessen’s 31 save performance and a pair of points from Zach Sill and Jesse Boulerice helped power the Penguins to a 2-1 victory.
The B-Sens struck first at 6:12 of the opening period. Geoff Kinrade’s hard shot from the point beat Thiessen blocker side to give Binghamton an early lead. The goal was Kinrade’s second of the season, assisted by Mike Hoffman and Tim Spencer.
It took just over three minutes for the Pens to answer. At 9:40 of the first Zach Sill successfully buried his second of the year off a feed from Jesse Boulerice to tie the game at one.
Sill and Boulerice would combine once more in the second period to put the Penguins on top. With 2:30 remaining on the clock in the second stanza, Boulerice beat the B-Sens’ Robin Lehner to earn his second goal of the season, assisted by Sill and Chris Collins.
In the third period of play, neither team was successful in adding to the score. Binghamton pulled Lehner from goal with 1:19 remaining in regulation, but the B-Sens were unable to spark any additional offense with the extra attacker.
The Penguins will make their first trip to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Thursday, Nov. 25 for a Thanksgiving evening tilt against the B-Sens. Puck drops at 6:05 p.m. Tickets are $17.75 for side seating, $16.75 for end seating.
