Rochester collected three power-play goals while Binghamton’s top-ranked power play went 0/7 on the night as the Americans defeated the B-Sens 4-2 Friday night at Blue Cross Arena.
The Americans took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission after a late goal by defenseman Peter Aston. Aston fired a shot off the goal post, which bounced into the body of netminder Jeff Glass and then into the net.
The Americans stretched the lead to two goals midway through the middle period. Michal Repik fed a cross-ice pass to Stefan Meyer, who buried a shot top shelf past the blocker of Glass. Rochester took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play in the final minute of the second period to extend the lead to three goals. Janis Sprukts set up a one-timer for Matt Duffy, who found twine for his second marker of the year.
Meyer struck again on the power play early in the third stanza. Meyer collected a loose puck in front of the B-Sens cage and snapped it home for a 4-0 lead. Sprukts collected his fourth assist of the night on Meyer’s goal.
Mark Bomersback broke up the shutout bid by netminder David Shantz with his third tally of the season. Bomersback snapped a low shot past Shantz on the stick side for the unassisted tally.
Left-winger Greg Mauldin capped the scoring with his 21st marker of the season, taking a backdoor feed from defenseman Derek Smith and beating Shantz with a wrist shot.
The B-Sens had a 44-23 shot advantage over the Americans.
