Greg Mauldin picked up a pair of goals but the B-Sens were unable to overcome a four-goal third period by Norfolk as the Admirals snapped Binghamton’s four-game winning streak with a 5-2 win Saturday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
Norfolk opened the scoring in the waning seconds of the first period when former B-Sen Brandon Bochenski took a feed from Zenon Konopka and snapped a wrist shot past netminder Jeff Glass.
After a scoreless middle frame, the Senators wasted no time knotting the game at one. Mauldin chipped home his 16th marker of the season, 16 seconds in, when he took a cross crease pass from Peter Regin, beating goaltender Craig Kowalski. Denis Hamel also picked up an assist on the play.
The Admirals then answered back with three goals in under a minute, as Radek Smolenak, Juraj Simek, and Pete Zingoni all scored to help Norfolk regain the lead. Blair Jones added another goal to cap off the scoring for Norfolk.
Mauldin netted his second tally of the game midway through the period when he picked up a loose puck in front of Kowalski and slipped it through his pads. Regin took the original shot but Kowalski was unable to corral it, leading to Mauldin’s second marker of the evening. The two-point night was the third straight for Mauldin.
In his first game back from Ottawa, Regin (6+11) extended his point streak to 10 games. Jeff Glass saw his four-game winning streak snapped, as the netminder allowed four goals on 26 shots.
