BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators returned to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena this evening for Power to the Purple night, where they were edged by the Albany Devils in a shootout, 3-2. Albany led the way in shots, 47-39.

The game started slowly as neither team was able to capitalize in the first period of play. The B-Sens had the lone goal in the second period as Corey Cowick scored his eighth goal of the season at 1:42 with assists from Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Dustin Gazley. Robin Lehner saved all 18 shots by Albany in the second.

Hugh Jessiman kicked off the third period for the B-Sens putting the puck past Devil’s goaltender Jeff Frazee on a penalty shot, giving the B-Sens a two-goal lead. Albany answered back as Matt Anderson slipped one past Lehner at 5:24 in the third with an assist from goalie Frazee, putting Albany on the score sheet with the B-Sens still leading 2-1. Half-way through the third period, Devils center Philip DeSimone tied the game at two with the help of Eric Gelinas and Tim Sestito.

Both the B-Sens and the Devils were kept scoreless through the five-minute overtime period.

The game progressed to a shootout. Mike Sislo and Chad Wiseman both scored in the first two rounds to give Albany the 2-0 advantage. Dustin Gazley and Hugh Jessiman scored in the final two rounds for the B-Sens, but Joe Whitney finished the game in the sudden death round.

Lehner ended the night with 44 saves on 46 total shots through regulation and overtime, before stopping three of six Devils in the shootout. Frazee made 37 saves on 39 shots through regulation and overtime before stonewalling four of six B-Sens in the shootout.
