BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Binghamton Senators forward David Dziurzynski became an unlikely hero, scoring a pair of goals and adding a pair of assists as the B-Sens defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. With the win, the B-Sens halted the Penguins’ nine-game road winning streak.
A penalty shot awarded to Dziurzynski with 31.1 seconds left in the second period resulted in his first goal of the night. The goal would stand as the game winner.
Andre Petersson also tallied a pair of goals for the B-Sens. Mike Hoffman and Corey Locke each scored a goal and an assist. Also earning two points in the match were Pat Cannone, Stephane Da Costa and Rob Klinkhammer – each receiving credit for a pair of assists.
Jack Downing also got in on the scoring action. With the B-Sens trailing 2-1 following the first period, Downing’s first American Hockey League goal tied the game just 1:46 into the game’s middle frame.
Ben Street and Eric Tangradi each posted a goal and an assist for the Penguins. Brian Lerg and Geoff Walker also added goals on the Wilkes-Barre side of the scoresheet.
Mike McKenna made his third consecutive start in goal for Binghamton and in turn earned his third consecutive win. The netminder made 31 saves to improve to 13-12-0 on the season. Brad Thiessen drew the start in goal for the Pens, but would be replaced by Scott Munroe in the third after allowing five goals on 13 shots. Munroe made six saves.
Binghamton ended the night 3-for-7 with the man advantage and went 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
