BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators won their second straight game of the New Year as they defeated the Connecticut Whale 3-1 Friday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
Corey Locke and Andre Petersson each scored a goal and an assist, while goaltender Mike McKenna turned aside 38 of 39 shots on goal to win his fifth straight game and improve to 10-9-0 on the season.
Connecticut’s lone goal of the game opened the scoring at 12:44 of the first. Kyle Tessier won a faceoff and slid the puck to Francois Bouchard who then beat McKenna with a quick shot to give the Whale a 1-0 lead.
Petersson and Pat Cannone scored exactly one minute apart in the second to give Binghamton a 2-1 edge. Locke fed Petersson on a power play to tie the game at one at 7:35. Cannone then redirected Tim Conboy’s shot from the point at 8:35 to put the B-Sens out in front.
Locke added an empty net tally with just 33.7 seconds remaining in regulation.
Chad Johnson tended goal for the Whale stopping 37 of 39 shots.
Binghamton was 1-for-3 on the power play. Connecticut was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
The B-Sens host the Rochester Americans tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $18.50 for side seating, $17.50 for end seating.
