BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators dropped a 5-2 decision to the Norfolk Admirals at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday night. It was the second straight night that the Admirals succeeded in putting up five goals on the Binghamton Senators. Norfolk defeated the B-Sens Friday night, 5-1.
Trevor Smith scored a goal and added a pair of assists, while Cory Conacher net a pair of goals to help the Ads to the victory.
Mike McKenna started in goal for Binghamton, making 37 saves on 41 shots faced.
The teams traded first period power play goals. Smith put Norfolk on the board at 16:55 of the opening frame as he one-timed a puck top shelf on McKenna. Rob Klinkhammer evened the score with 1:19 remaining in the period as he tipped Da Costa’s wrister past Jaroslav Janus.
Conacher tallied his first of the night at 8:22 of the second period to give the Admirals a 2-1 edge. Tyler Johnson increased Norfolk’s lead by two as he scored at 17:14 of the middle frame.
At 8:58 of the third period, Mike Hoffman blasted a shot in from the point on a power play to bring the B-Sens back within one. Pat Cannone drew the primary assist on the goal, his second of the night.
Just past the mid-way point of the third, Conacher tipped Mike Kostka’s shot through the pads of a screened McKenna to reclaim the two-goal cushion for the Admirals, before J.T. Wyman sealed the victory for Norfolk hitting an empty net with 1:14 remaining in regulation.
Binghamton ended the night 2-for-5 on the power play. Norfolk was 1-for-5 with the man advantage.
