BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators fell to the Norfolk Admirals 5-1 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Friday night. Trevor Smith led the charge for the visiting Admirals, scoring a goal and adding a pair of assists. Goaltender Dustin Tokarski earned his fifth straight victory turning aside 21 of Binghamton’s 22 shots.
The Admirals took a 1-0 lead at 7:09 of the first period. Michel Ouellet one-timed a shot over the blocker of a screened Robin Lehner to put Norfolk on the board. Smith earned the lone assist on the play.
Andre Petersson leveled the playing field for the B-Sens as he blasted a shot from the right circle, beating Tokarski at 9:30 of the second period. Pat Cannone and Eric Gryba drew the assists. With the goal, Petersson moves into a tie with Mark Parrish for the team lead in goals with eight.
Matt Fornataro regained the lead for Norfolk at 13:39 of the period, burying a backdoor feed from Smith on a power play.
Mike Kostka and Corey Conacher added goals at 18:47 and 19:40 respectively, to send the Admirals to the dressing room for the second intermission with a commanding 4-1 lead.
Norfolk rounded out the scoring as Smith notched his third point of the night, beating Lehner with 1:22 remaining in regulation.
Lehner stopped 34 of 39 shots as he fell to 6-10-1 on the season.
Binghamton was 0-for-3 on the power play. Norfolk was 2-for-3 with the man advantage.
The same two teams face-off in Binghamton tomorrow night. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $18.50 for side seating, $17.50 for end seating.
