HARTFORD, C.T. – The Binghamton Senators played their third game in as many days when they visited the Connecticut Whale in Hartford on Sunday afternoon. Andre Petersson put the B-Sens ahead to stay 4-3 in the third period with his second goal of the game.
Connecticut got off to a quick start in the first period, jumping out to a 2-0 lead.
Mats Zuccarello scored a power play goal with 7:03 remaining in the frame, assisted by Kris Newbury and Brendan Bell.
Andreas Thuresson followed 19 seconds later with a goal of his own. Assisting on Thuresson’s goal was Ryan Borque.
But the B-Sens fired back in the second period as Rob Klinkhammer scored his first goal as a Senator to cut the defecit to 2-1. Assisting on the goal were Stephane Da Costa and Patrick Wiercioch.
Andre Petersson tied the game just over one minute later. Klinkhammer was credited with the assist.
Later in the second, Derek Grant tipped in a Mike Bartlett shot to give Binghamton a 3-2 lead on a power play goal. Mark Borowiecki was also credited with an assist.
Zuccarello countered with his second goal of the game to knot the game at three prior to the end of the second period, assisted by Andre Deveaux.
8:07 into the third period, Petersson tallied the game-winner, putting the B-Sens ahead 4-3 for good. Matt Carkner and Stephane Da Costa assisted on the play.
Robin Lehner earned the win in net for Binghamton by stopping 14 of 17 shots while Cameron Talbot turned aside 26 of 30 for Connecticut.
The B-Sens return home on Wednesday to take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $18.50 for side seating, $17.50 for end seating.
