NORFOLK, V.A. – The Binghamton Senators began the weekend on a sour note as they were defeated by the Norfolk Admirals 7-0 at the Scope Arena on Friday night. Trevor Smith notched the hat trick and Dustin Tokarski stopped all 14 shots faced to help lead the Admirals to victory.
Matt Fornataro tallied a trio of assists in the game, while J.T. Wyman, Carter Ashton, Corey Conacher and Dana Tyrell each added goals for Norfolk.
Despite being outshot 18 to 3, the B-Sens escaped the first period trailing by just one goal. Smith opened the scoring, registering his first of the season at 4:48 of the period.
The Admirals increased their lead with a pair of power play goals in the second period. Wyman scored at 4:06 to put Norfolk ahead by two. Ashton added his team-leading fifth goal of the season at 15:26 to give the Admirals a commanding three goal advantage.
Smith notched his second of the evening on a power play at 4:27 of the third, before completing the hat trick just past the midway point of the period.
Conacher and Tyrell then rounded out scoring as they tallied goals just 11 seconds apart (14:55 and 15:06 respectively).
Robin Lehner started in goal for the B-Sens, turning away 35 of the 38 shots faced through two periods of play before being relieved of his duties. Mike McKenna took over between the pipes in the third, stopping 11 of 15.
The B-Sens look to rebound tomorrow night as they return to the Norfolk Scope Arena to face the Admirals in a 7:15 tilt. Fans can listen live on “Binghamton’s Classic Hits” BIG 107.5 (WBBI-FM). Voice of the B-Sens Grady Whittenburg will have the call beginning 30 minutes before game time as he hosts Countdown to Faceoff.
