BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Three unanswered goals in the second period, two of which came with the man advantage, led to the Toronto Marlies 3-2 victory over the Binghamton Senators at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday night.

Kaspars Daugavins and Eric Gryba each scored their first goals of the season for the B-Sens. Mike McKenna turned away 35 of the 38 shots he faced in his first start a Binghamton Senator.

Binghamton took an early lead as Daugavins lifted the puck up and over Toronto goaltender Ben Scrivens just 1:35 into the first period. With less than five minutes remaining in that same period, Gryba blasted a shot from the point that found its way through traffic into the Marlies goal to send the B-Sens to the dressing room for the intermission holding a two-goal lead.

Toronto returned for the second with renewed energy, outshooting the B-Sens 19 to 1. Joey Crabb put the Marlies on the board 3:24 into the period. McKenna made the initial save on a shot by Marcel Mueller, but Crabb was there to poke the puck in from the goal line.

Back to back penalties on Binghamton in the second half of the period resulted in a pair of power play goals for the Marlies. Joe Colborne tied the game at two just 18 seconds into a boarding minor called against the B-Sens at 13:38. Darryl Boyce then net the go ahead goal for Toronto with 1:00 remaining in the period, taking advantage of a scramble in the Binghamton crease to squeeze the puck in glove side on a down and out McKenna.

The B-Sens made every effort to tie the game, turning the tables on Toronto to outshoot them 15 to 3 in the third, but came up empty handed.

The B-Sens return to action next Friday as they host the Syracuse Crunch at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $18.50 for side seating, $17.50 for end seating. Fans can purchase tickets at www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 1-800-745-3000 or in person at the Binghamton Senators’ executive office or the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena box office.
