The newest Binghamton Senator, David Marshall made quite the impression during his first set of weekend games after signing a professional try-out contract with the B-Sens on Feb. 15. Although the team was not able pull out a win against Syracuse on Friday and again on Saturday against Wilkes-Barre (one of five American Hockey League teams that Marshall previously played for) the play of the 27 year-old forward stood out and was a positive for both the fans and coaches.
When asked about the play of the forward, Assistant Coach Steve Stirling talked about how surprised the coaching staff was with the results Marshall gave the team last weekend.
“He came in, kept it simple. We put him on a line where we needed safe minutes. We needed responsible minutes. He showed a bit more grit than we expected or even knew about which is always a bonus. He stuck up for his teammates a couple of times, which is pleasant to see because not everyone will do it and he showed a little bit of skill on top of that. There might be something there”.

It seems as if Marshall made the impression he intended to from the start. The newest member of the B-Sens, who joined the team after beginning the season with the ECHL’s Reading Royals, is known for his hardnosed play and high energy. He is always willing to do whatever it takes to win a game or at least make sure his team goes down fighting.
“I’ve always been known for playing hardnosed. I think that’s the best way to get respect. Lay it out there for your teammates, protect your teammates and also have a skill set. You also have to be offensive and responsible on the defensive end too. I think that gives you the best opportunity to play more and gives the team a better opportunity to win” said Marshall.

Coach Stirling and Marshall seem to have the same vision for the future based off of what the team saw from him this past weekend.
“Between the energy and the skill level…he shoots the puck pretty well. I feel given the opportunity he can score some goals for us” Stirling stated. He went on to say with only 11 forwards on the roster as of now, it looks as if Marshall will get the opportunity he seeks to stand out in the eyes of the ones who make the roster decision.
At the next B-Sens game you attend be sure to keep an eye on #14, the energy he brings will surely excite you.
