Friday, Jan. 14: Binghamton 2, Albany 3
Shots: Binghamton 29, Albany 20
PP: Binghamton 1 for 5, Albany 1 for 3
The B-Sens travelled to Albany seeking their first win in the Times Union Center this season, but ultimately fell 3-2 as agitator Louis Robitaille net the game-winner just 3:39 into the third period. Mike Brodeur manned the pipes for Binghamton making 17 saves, while Erik Condra and Derek Smith each recorded goals for the B-Sens. Albany’s Jacob Josefson (one goal, one assist), and Adam Henrique (two assists) each went on to record two-points against the B-Sens.
Saturday, Jan. 15: Manchester 4, Binghamton 3
Shots: Manchester 26, Binghamton 41
PP: Manchester 0 for 1, Binghamton 1 for 3
The B-Sens welcomed a Monarchs team to town Saturday night, whose travel to Binghamton from Charlotte began in the early hours of the morning. Manchester, however, showed little sign of fatigue as they battled the B-Sens to a 4-3 victory. Robin Lehner, re-assigned to Binghamton by Ottawa that morning, started in goal for the B-Sens stopping 22 of 26 shots, while his counterpart Matt Jones turned away 38 of 41. Corey Elkins scored for Manchester at 5:24 of the third to tie the score at three, before David Meckler put the game away with his 13th goal of the season at 16:43 of the period. Bobby Butler, David Dziurzynski and Ryan Keller would all net goals for the B-Sens.
Sunday, Jan. 16: Hershey 1, Binghamton 2
Shots: Hershey 30, Binghamton 37
PP: Hershey 0 for 3, Binghamton 1 for 5
The B-Sens wrapped up a stretch of three games in three nights as they welcomed the Hershey Bears to town. Entering the game, the B-Sens had gone 1-4-0-0 against the defending Calder Cup champions this season. Barry Brust took a turn in goal for the B-Sens stopping all but one of 30 shots, while Andrew Sweetland and Ryan Keller each went on to score goals for Binghamton on the way to a narrow 2-1 win. Boyd Kane scored the lone Hershey goal in the match, while Braden Holtby, who saw action in net for his second straight game, stopped 35 of 37 B-Sens shots.
Standings:The B-Sens are fifth place in the East Division (46 points).
Wednesday, Jan. 19 @ Albany Devils (New Jersey Devils)
The B-Sens return to Albany on Wednesday to face the Devils. It will have only been five days since Binghamton last visited the Capital District. The Times Union Center has not been kind to the B-Sens, as they are winless in the building so far this season. Devils forward Louis Robitaille proved to be a pest in the last meeting between the two teams, racking up 16 penalty minutes in addition to scoring the game winning goal for Albany. Defenseman Derek Smith continues his point scoring streak against the Devils. He has notched eight of his 23 assists on the season against the East Division rival.
Friday, Jan. 21 vs. Norfolk Admirals (Tampa Bay Lightning)
As the Admirals cruise into town on Saturday, it will be the first time the teams have met since Oct. 9 (a 7-4 Norfolk victory). The Admirals enter the week ranked second overall in the East Division with a record of 22-10-7-2 and 53 points. Marc-Antoine Pouliot leads the team in points with 34 (10 goals, 24 assists). He notched four assists, including one on Blair Jones’s game-winning goal, back in October at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
Promotions: The first 1,000 fans in attendance of Friday’s game will receive a hockey stick keychain courtesy of Elmira Business Institute.
Sunday, Jan. 22 @ Manchester Monarchs (Los Angeles Kings)
The B-Sens wrap up their season series with the Manchester Monarchs on Saturday at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The Monarchs remain in first place of the Atlantic Division with a record of 27-14-1-2 and 57 points. Manchester is 15-6-1-0 at home this season, but the B-Sens traditionally have had good luck when visiting the Monarchs. Binghamton holds a 4-1-1-0 record when in Manchester. Monarchs’ net minder Martin Jones stopped 38 of 41 B-Sens shots last Saturday and still ranks high among his peers in goals-against average. Jones currently sits in fourth place overall with a 1.93 goals-against average in 22 games played.
Andrew Sweetland’s goal Sunday versus Hershey came in his first shift as a Binghamton Senator. The B-Sens signed the 24 year-old to a professional try-out contract earlier that day. The game was also Sweetland’s 100th career American Hockey League game. Prior to Sunday’s game he had appeared in 99 games (all with the Rochester Americans).
Derek Smith currently has the longest active point streak of any B-Sens player. The defenseman recorded four points in his last four games (one goal, three assists). Smith surpassed Danny Bois to move into a tie with Brandon Bochenski for ninth place on the B-Sens list of all-time leaders in career points with 116 (28 goals, 88 assists).
Ryan Keller’s goal scored against Hershey on Sunday was his seventh career game-winning goal as a Binghamton Senator. It moved him into a tie for seventh place on the B-Sens list of all-time leaders in game-winning goals, an honor he currently shares with Brian McGrattan, Jason Spezza and Brad Smyth.
Have you heard about the Binghamton Senators 7th Man Program? The B-Sens have teamed up with the Magic Paintbrush Project for this special program. The 7th Man Program is designed to increase access for families and individuals with special needs in the Southern Tier community, enabling them to actively participate in the B-Sens hockey experience. For each B-Sens home game, one lucky family receives four tickets to the game, with a special concierge assigned to assist the family and provide accessibility support. Each family is visited by the B-Sens mascot Max and has the opportunity to meet and greet a player post game (schedule permitting). So far this season the B-Sens have served 27 families at risk or with special needs. If you or someone you know would be interested in participating in the 7th Man Program please contact the Magic Paintbrush Project at 607-729-5059.
