Wednesday, March 24: Toronto 5, Binghamton 2
Shots: Toronto 29, Binghamton 39
PP: Toronto 4 for 8, Binghamton 2 for 8
Following a promising first half of last Wednesday’s game that saw the B-Sens go up 2-1 on Toronto just over the midway point of the second period, Binghamton flailed giving up two points to the visiting Marlies of the North Division. Ryan Keller and Yannick Tifu each scored for the B-Sens, while Chris Holt manned the Senators’ net making 24 saves. Both B-Sens goals as well as four of the five Toronto goals came on the power play. Toronto’s Kyle Calder ended the night with three points (one goal, two assists).
Friday, March 26: Binghamton 4, Rochester 3
Shots: Binghamton 28, Rochester 35
PP: Binghamton 3 for 6, Rochester 0 for 4
Friday in Rochester, N.Y. the B-Sens jumped to a 3-1 first period lead on the Americans, in the final of ten meetings between the two teams this season. Although Rochester would bounce back to tie the score six minutes into the second period, defenseman Derek Smith scored his 11th goal of the season with just 2:18 to put the B-Sens back in the lead 4-3, with what would eventually become the game winner. Mike Brodeur tended goal against his former team stopping 32 of 35 Amerks’ shots. Josh Hennessy scored two goals, while captain Denis Hamel added a goal and an assist. Ryan Keller also had a two point night, notching two assists.
Sunday, March 28: Binghamton 2, Hershey 3
Shots: Binghamton 24, Hershey 22
PP: Binghamton 1 for 4, Hershey 0 for 5
Following a rare Saturday off, the B-Sens made a Sunday evening trip to Hershey to take on the Bears. A three goal second period for Hershey helped to seal the B-Sens fate, as they fell 3-2. Paul Baier and Jim O’Brien each scored for Binghamton. Mike Brodeur made his second consecutive start in goal for the B-Sens making 19 saves. Yannick Tifu earned two assists in the Binghamton loss. Hershey’s Alexander Giroux scored the first for Hershey, a goal that would be his 300th in the American Hockey League.
Standings:The B-Sens are in fifth place in the East division (72 points)
Friday, April 2 vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh Penguins)
The B-Sens are poised to face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins three times in their six remaining games. The Pens, 6-2-1-1 in their last ten games have surged past Norfolk to take third place in the East Division. Binghamton has not fared well against Wilkes-Barre this season, holding a 1-2-1-1 record against their East Division rival. Their lone win against the Penguins came at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Jan. 15 (a 3-0 B-Sens victory). Odds are good that Binghamton could face Pens’ net minder Brad Thiessen who earned the nod as the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 28. Thiessen stopped 94 of 97 shots faced last week.
Promotions: The Southern Tier chapter of the Red Cross joins the B-Sens Friday. Their emergency response vehicle will be displayed outside the arena for fans to tour. Also, fans who sign up to donate blood or make a donation to the chapter will receive a free B-Sens t-shirt courtesy of the Red Cross.
Also Friday, the Broome Sports Foundation will award the 2010 Tommy Mitchell Memorial Scholarships to ten local high school and college students in a special first intermission ceremony. In addition to the scholarship presentation, the B-Sens’ second period jerseys from the 2010 Mirabito Outdoor Classic will be auctioned off live, post game with all proceeds going to the Broome Sports Foundation.
The Ross Park Zoo will also be on hand with their popular Zoo Mobile. Fans will have the opportunity to see a variety of small animals that call the local zoo home.  Ty, a black footed penguin, will take part in a special first puck drop that night!
Saturday, April 3 vs. Norfolk Admirals (Tampa Bay Lightning)
The B-Sens host yet another team they are looking to over take in the East Division standings this Saturday as the Norfolk Admirals come to town. Norfolk enters the week holding on the fourth place spot in the East Division with a record of 36-32-3-3 (78 points). The game will be the final of eight meetings between the two teams. Binghamton has gone 3-3-0-1 against the Admirals this season.
Promotions: Saturday at 4:15 fans are encouraged to come out for the first annual Hockey for Hope charity game. Hockey for Hope is an event created by Brian Laing in memory of his aunt Connie who passed away following a five year battle with breast cancer. The game is free and open to the public. For more information or to see the team rosters visit www.binghamtonsenators.com.
Saturday is also the Face off Against Cancer Presented by Lourdes, which features a special first intermission survivor’s lap in addition to a 45 minute open-skate post game. Fans wishing to participate are encouraged to bring their own skates.
Also during Saturday’s first intermission, Endicott Precision will be presenting Scott Jones of Harpursville, N.Y. with a check for $1,000. Jones won the Endicott Precision Shot on Goal contest during the first intermission of the March 24 game versus the Toronto Marlies.
The Binghamton Senators ended the month of March with a 10-5-1 record, earning 21 points.
Entering this week, the B-Sens have jumped to 7th overall in the American Hockey League on the power play.  Binghamton has buried 70 of 362 chances, for a percentage of 19.3%.
The B-Sens are also ranked 10th overall in the AHL on the penalty kill stopping 287 of 343 power play chances for opponents (83.7%).
Approaching milestones for the B-Sens, this Saturday versus Norfolk Drew Bannister will play his 200th American Hockey League game. Friday, April 9 at Adirondack Martin St. Pierre will appear in his 400th American Hockey League game and Saturday, April 10 versus Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Derek Smith will play his 200th American Hockey League game (all with the B-Sens).
