B-Sens Weekly

Friday, March 20: Norfolk 3, Binghamton 4
Shots: Norfolk 31, Binghamton 35
PP: Norfolk 0 for 1, Binghamton 1 for 3
The Binghamton Senators overcame a slow start to rally for a 4-3 win over the visiting Norfolk Admirals.  The B-Sens lone lead of the night came on Shane Prince’s second tally 12:19 into the final period to give the hosts the one-goal advantage and eventual win.
Nathan McIver opened the scoring 3:09 into the first period with his second goal of the season to give Norfolk the 1-0 lead.  Michael Sgarbossa doubled the lead with less than four minutes to play in the frame off a feed from Max Friberg.  The B-Sens power play unit managed to cut the Admirals’ lead to 2-1 off Prince’s first of the night with just 38 seconds remaining in the first period.  Binghamton went to the first intermission trailing 2-1 despite outshooting Norfolk 15-8.
The Admirals regained their two-goal advantage 6:25 into the middle frame when Friberg sent a slap shot past Scott Greenham to make it 3-1.  Binghamton responded just past the 12-minute mark of the period when Zack Smith, who was playing in his first game with the B-Sens since being assigned on a conditioning stint from Ottawa, scooped home a rebound in front of the Admirals’ Jason LaBarbera and buried the puck for his first of the season.  Cole Schneider notched his team-leading 23rd goal of the year with less than one minute to play in the period to send the teams to the final intermission tied 3-3.
Norfolk managed to outshoot Binghamton 14-10 over the final period, but Prince’s second tally of the night proved the difference maker as Greenham stonewalled all of the Admirals scoring chances over the final 20 minutes of play.
Greenham finished with 28 saves to improve to 13-8-2 on the year while LaBarbera allowed four goals on 35 shots to drop to 8-13-6 for the season.  Prince tallied two goals and an assist while Schneider notched a goal and two helpers to lead Binghamton offensively.
Saturday, March 21: Binghamton 4, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 3
Shots: Binghamton 23, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 36
PP: Binghamton 0 for 1, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 1 for 6
The Binghamton Senators scored two unanswered goals in the third period to beat their host, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 4-3. With the win, the B-Sens earned their third victory in a row and points in eight of their past 10 games.
Michael Sdao opened the scoring for the B-Sens with his second goal of the season off assists from Derek Grant and Smith 13:13 in the first.  Buddy Robinson doubled Binghamton’s lead just 22 seconds later with the team’s 10th shorthanded goal of the year, tying them for first in the American Hockey League with the San Antonio Rampage.  The Penguins cut the lead in half after Danny Syvret put a power-play goal past Peter Mannino with a little over five minutes remaining in the first. The B-Sens took the 2-1 lead to the first intermission despite being outshot 15-4.
Wilkes-Barre took their first lead of the game in the second with two goals at the beginning and end of the period. The tying goal came from a Carter Rowney wrap-around goal 47 seconds into the period before Scott Wilson scored his 15th of the season with 16 seconds left to play. The Penguins went into the final intermission break with a 3-2 lead being outshot by the Senators 12-11.
The B-Sens completed a come-from-behind win after scoring two goals in the third period. Max McCormick tied the game less than two minutes in with a snipe from the right faceoff circle for his 8th goal of the year. Prince put home the game-winning goal 14:09 into the third off assists from Schneider and Carter Camper giving the B-Sens a final 4-3 score.
Mannino stopped 33 shots to earn the victory in his first matchup against his former team while Jeff Zatkoff had 19 saves in the losing effort.
Sunday, March 22: Binghamton 1, Bridgeport 7
Shots: Binghamton 32, Bridgeport 41
PP: Binghamton 0 for 2, Bridgeport 1 for 5
The Binghamton Senators fell 7-1 to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in their final game of a three-in-three weekend.
Kael Mouillierat scored his 19th goal of the season just over two minutes into the first period with a lacrosse-style wraparound goal to beat Mannino. Alan Quine doubled the Sound Tigers’ lead at the 4:38 mark of the first period off assists from Mike Halmo and Kevin Czuczman bringing the score to 2-0. Robinson cut the host’s lead in half after putting home a feed from Alex Guptill on a two-on-one rush. Griffin Reinhart gave the two-goal cushion back to Bridgeport after going underneath Mannino’s blocker with a little less than eight minutes remaining in the first. The B-Sens went to the locker room trailing the Sound Tigers 3-1 and 14-10 in shots.
Bridgeport scored a pair of goals in both the second and the third period to push the final score to 7-1. Quine scored his second of the night 7:38 into the second followed by Aaron Ness’s 8th of the year less than four minutes later. John Persson scored a power-play goal 11:51 in the third to put the score to 6-1 before Johan Sundstrom notched the final tally of the night almost five minutes later.
Mannino stopped 33 shots in the losing effort while Kevin Poulin had 30 saves for his 16th win of the year.
