Wednesday, Nov. 27: Syracuse 1, Binghamton 5
Shots: Syracuse 33, Binghamton 37
PP: Syracuse 1 for 3, Binghamton 0 for 1

Binghamton welcomed the Syracuse Crunch to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena and dismantled them by a 5-1 score.  Andrew Hammond played a solid 40 minutes of relief to earn his fifth consecutive victory following starter Nathan Lawson’s precautionary departure after taking a stick to the throat towards the end of the first period.

Mike Sdao started things off for the B-Sens notching his second tally of the year at the 10:26 mark of the opening period.  The period drew to a close with Binghamton holding the 1-0 lead.  Lawson stopped all 12 shots faced before relinquishing his duties to back-up net minder Hammond for the remainder of the contest.  Crunch goaltender Riku Helenius managed to turn aside 10 of 11 shots faced through the first 20 minutes.

Binghamton doubled its lead 6:45 into the second period when Andre Petersson scored his sixth goal of the year off helpers from Jim O’Brien and Shane Prince.  Syracuse cut the B-Sens lead to one at 10:35 of the period when Geoff Walker slipped a power-play goal past Hammond making it 2-1.  Prince regained the two goal lead for Binghamton with under a minute to play in the frame when he stole a Crunch pass deep in their own zone and stick handled through traffic before beating Helenius over his left shoulder putting the scoreboard at 3-1 heading into the second intermission.

Hammond closed the door on the Crunch the entire final period stopping all 12 Syracuse chances while the B-Sens added two more tallies to put the game away.  Cole Schneider notched his sixth goal of the year at 11:31 before Petersson added his second goal of the game at 15:14 moving the final score to 5-1 Binghamton.  Hammond finished with 20 saves for the night to improve to 6-3-0 while Helenius managed to stop 32 of 37 shots in the losing effort.

The line trio of Prince-O’Brien-Petersson led the way offensively for Binghamton collectively registering seven points on the night.  Prince finished with a goal and two assists while O’Brien pitched in two helpers with Petersson scoring twice.

Friday, Nov. 29: Binghamton 0, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 1
Shots: Binghamton 25, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 26
PP: Binghamton 0 for 6, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 0 for 7

The B-Sens dropped a tough 1-0 decision to their East Division rival the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena.  The lone goal of the game came midway through the second period as Harry Zolnierczyk recorded his ninth tally of the year.  Eric Hartzell earned the shutout victory for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton stopping all 25 Binghamton shots while Nathan Lawson played stellar as well in route to only his third loss of the season.

Zolnierczyk’s difference maker came at the 15:46 mark of the second period off assists from Brian Gibbons and Philip Samuelsson.  The Penguins managed to kill off all six of Binghamton’s extra-man advantages to hold on for the slim victory.

Lawson closed the night stopping 25 of 26 shots faced moving to 8-3-0 for the season.  Binghamton’s penalty-kill unit did its job finishing a perfect seven for seven on man-down scenarios.

Saturday, Nov. 30: St. John’s 4, Binghamton 3 (SO)
Shots: St. John’s 41, Binghamton 39
PP: St. John’s 2 for 6, Binghamton 0 for 3

Binghamton faced off against the St. John’s IceCaps for the first of four scheduled meetings this season on Saturday dropping a 4-3 shootout to the Atlantic Division foe.  Tied three all after 60 minutes of regulation and five minutes of overtime, Jerome Samson converted in the third round of the shootout giving the road team a hard fought victory.

Mike Hoffman started things early for Binghamton recording his eleventh goal of the year at 2:41 of the opening period.  Buddy Robinson intercepted an IceCaps pass deep in the B-Sens defensive zone and alertly led Hoffman up the ice who displayed great speed in outskating his defender, slipping the puck under St. John’s goaltender Jussi Olkinuora to give the hosts the early lead.  The IceCaps evened things up at 16:43 of the first on a power-play goal from Jerome Samson sending the teams into intermission deadlocked.

Stephane Da Costa gave the lead back to the home team at 13:42 of the middle frame receiving a great pass from Hoffman in the slot where he wristed a shot over Olkinuora moving it to 2-1.  St. John’s again drew things even on another power-play goal this time coming from Andrew Gordon at 16:57.

Binghamton regained its lead at 9:47 of the final period with David Dziurzynski notching his first goal of the year after knocking home a rebound off a Matt Puempel wrist shot.  However, with under 30 seconds to go and an empty-net for St. John’s they managed to score the game-tying goal sending the contest to extra time.  After a scoreless sudden death overtime, the contest moved to a shootout where the IceCaps converted on two of four opportunites giving St. John’s the bonus point and handing the B-Sens their first loss of the season after regulation.

Hoffman finished the night with a goal and an assist and Fredrick Claesson added two assists to lead Binghamton offensively.  Hammond finished with 37 saves on 40 shots faced in the loss while his counterpart Olkinuora stopped 36 of 39 for the win.
