LAST WEEK…

Friday, Jan. 7: Syracuse 4, Binghamton 6
Shots: Syracuse 35, Binghamton 33
PP: Syracuse 2 for 4, Binghamton 1 for 3

The B-Sens began a stretch of four games in five nights as they welcomed the Syracuse Crunch to town Friday night. The teams totaled ten goals in the game, but in the end the B-Sens came out on top, 6-4. Colin Greening and Corey Locke registered three points, each scoring a goal and a pair of assists, while Erik Condra tallied two goals, including the game winner. Mike Hoffman and Frank Lessard rounded out the scoring for the B-Sens, while Syracuse defenseman Nathan Paetsch scored half of the Crunch goals. Barry Brust made his lone appearance in goal for the weekend stopping 31 of 35 shots.

Saturday, Jan. 8: Rochester 1, Binghamton 2
Shots: Rochester 36, Binghamton 36
PP: Rochester 1 for 2, Binghamton 0 for 4

Saturday marked the return of Mike Brodeur to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena ice. Brodeur hadn’t appeared in a home game for the B-Sens since the Oct. 8 opener. What a return it was, as Brodeur stood on his head for the B-Sens, turning away 35 shots to help lead the team to a 2-1 victory. David Dziurzynski registered his first professional goal in the game, while Erik Condra broke a 1-1 tie in the second period, earning credit for the game winning goal for the second straight game. Both Dziurzynski and Condra assisted on each other’s goals, while their line mate Jim O’Brien added an assist on both. Veteran forward Chris Taylor would be the lone goal scorer for Rochester.

Sunday, Jan. 9: Binghamton 5, Providence 3
Shots: Binghamton 20, Providence 29
PP: Binghamton 2 for 5, Providence 2 for 7

The B-Sens ended the weekend with a victory at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence. Robin Lehner took a turn in goal making 26 saves, while David Dziurzynski led the B-Sens offense with a pair of goals. The rookie forward fell short of earning a hat trick, narrowly missing an open net in the closing seconds of the game. Andre Benoit, Corey Locke and Ryan Keller added goals for the B-Sens, while Erik Condra, Kaspars Daugavins and Jim O’Brien each earned a pair of assists in the match. Jordan Caron tallied two of the Bruins three goals, and added an assist. Matt Dalton started in goal for Providence, but was chased from the net in favor of Nolan Schaefer after allowing four goals on 15 shots.

Tuesday, Jan. 11: Binghamton 5, Portland 2
Shots: Binghamton 29, Portland 27
PP: Binghamton 1 for 3, Portland 0 for 2

The B-Sens cruised to their fourth straight victory in a rare Tuesday night tilt against Portland. Corey Locke led the offense for the B-Sens registering two goals, including the game winner, and two assists. Andre Benoit, Mike Hoffman and Ryan Keller would also score for Binghamton. Mike Mancari scored his team leading 17th goal of the season for the Pirates, while Brian Roloff tallied his first professional goal to round out the scoring for Portland. Robin Lehner made his second straight start for the B-Sens turning away 25 shots. With the victory, Lehner is undefeated in his past four starts in goal.

Standings:The B-Sens are fifth place in the East Division (44 points).

THIS WEEK…

Friday, Jan. 14 @ Albany Devils (New Jersey Devils)

The B-Sens make the trip to the Times Union Center on Friday for their fourth of eight meetings with the Devils. Binghamton will look to even up the season series, as they are currently 1-2-0-0 against Albany so far this season. The Devils enter the game coming off a 2-0 victory Tuesday night over the Atlantic Division’s Worcester Sharks. Mike McKenna manned the pipes making 32 saves, while Michael Swift added a pair of goals. Swift is tied for the lead in goals among his Albany teammates with 13, and has recorded three points against the B-Sens so far this season (one goal, two assists). Colin Greening has registered three goals against the Devils this season, while Derek Smith has notched seven of his 21 assists on the season against the East Division rival.

Saturday, Jan. 15 vs. Manchester Monarchs (Los Angeles Kings)

The B-Sens welcome the Manchester Monarchs to town Saturday for the first of a pair of meetings between the teams this season. The Monarchs currently lead the Atlantic Division with a record of 25-14-1-1, good for 52 points and boast a road record of 7-3-0-0 in their last ten games. Monarchs’ net minder Martin Jones is tops in the league with a stingy 1.75 goals-against average.

Promotions:
Saturday is STAR WARS night! Be sure to bring the kids and your camera as the B-Sens welcome your favorite Star Wars characters to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena, including Darth Vader, Chewbacca and the Storm Troopers!

Sunday, Jan. 16 vs. Hershey Bears (Washington Capitals)

The troublesome Hershey Bears return to Binghamton Sunday evening for game number six of eight on the season. The B-Sens are 1-4-0-0 against Hershey. The B-Sens lone victory against the Bears came on home ice back on Nov. 19 as they doubled up on Hershey, 4-2. The Bears are the lone team in the Eastern Conference to send three players to the 2011 AHL All-Star game presented by Capital BlueCross: Andrew Gordon, Braden Holtby and former Binghamton Senator Lawrence Nycholat. Holtby holds a record of 2-0 when facing the B-Sens this season, while Gordon has recorded seven points (three goals, four assists) against Binghamton.

Promotions: Sunday the B-Sens will wear their police-themed jerseys for the second time this season. The B-Sens originally wore the jerseys on Dec. 3 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The jerseys will be auctioned off post-game to benefit the Broome Sports Foundation.

Also, the first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a set of B-Sens Thundersticks courtesy of Verizon Wireless.

SENS SNIPPETS…

With Tuesday’s win in Portland, the B-Sens have won four straight games and have pulled within two points of the Hershey Bears for fourth place in the East Division. The last time the B-Sens won four in a row was the 2008-09 season: March 7, 2009 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (a 2-1 win) to March 13, 2009 versus Norfolk (a 6-2 win).

David Dziurzynski scored his first professional goal in the B-Sens 2-1 win over the Rochester Americans on Jan. 8.

Corey Locke and Bobby Butler have been named to the Eastern Conference AHL All-Star team for the 2011 AHL All Star Game presented by Capital BlueCross taking place Jan. 30 and 31 in Hershey, P.A.  Locke was voted a starter by fan balloting.

Locke appeared in his 500th career AHL game Jan. 2 in Charlotte.  The Toronto native currently leads the AHL in assists (40), power play assists (22), and points (15+40=55), while Butler is tied for the AHL lead in game winning goals with five.

Erik Condra is tied for the AHL lead in plus-minus with a plus-17.

B-SENS BRINGING IT HOME TO THE COMMUNITY…

Have you heard about the Binghamton Senators 7th Man Program? The B-Sens have teamed up with the Magic Paintbrush Project for this special program which increases access for families and individuals with special needs in the Southern Tier community, enabling them to actively participate in the B-Sens hockey experience. For each B-Sens home game, one lucky family receives four tickets to the game, with a special concierge assigned to assist the family and provide accessibility support. Each family is visited by the B-Sens mascot Max and has the opportunity to meet and greet a player post game (schedule permitting). So far the B-Sens have served 25 families at risk or with special needs in the 2010-11 season. If you or someone you know would be interested in participating in the 7th Man Program please contact the Magic Paintbrush Project at 607-729-5059.
