B-SENS WEEKLY

LAST WEEK…

Friday, Oct. 29: Charlotte 3, Binghamton 4
Shots: Charlotte 33, Binghamton 49
PP: Charlotte 1 for 5, Binghamton 2 for 4

After falling into an early 2-0 hole, the B-Sens bounced back with three second period goals to jump ahead of the Charlotte Checkers in the first ever meeting between the two teams.  Ryan Keller, Corey Locke and Erik Condra all notched their third goals of the season during the second period to put Binghamton ahead 3-2.  The Checkers’ Nick Dodge tied the score with just 16 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime, but Bobby Butler found the net at 3:53 of the overtime period, lifting the B-Sens to a 4-3 victory.  Locke earned his second point of the night, an assist, on Butler’s overtime goal.

Saturday, Oct. 30: Charlotte 3, Binghamton 2
Shots: Charlotte 46, Binghamton 38
PP: Charlotte 0 for 3, Binghamton 1 for 6

For the second straight game, the B-Sens found themselves facing overtime against the Charlotte Checkers.  The Checkers however would be the ones to emerge victorious.  Just 1:23 into extra time Casey Borer scored his first goal of the season for Charlotte to put an end to the game.  B-Sens captain Ryan Keller and Bobby Butler each recorded goals for the B-Sens.  Barry Brust made his sixth straight start in goal for Binghamton, making 43 saves in the tilt.

Record: 4-3-1-1

Standings: The B-Sens are currently tied with the Albany Devils and Syracuse Crunch for fourth place in the East Division (ten points).

THIS WEEK…

Friday, Nov. 5 at Hamilton Bulldogs (Montreal Canadiens) – Bell Centre, Montreal, Q.C.

The B-Sens face the North Division’s Hamilton Bulldogs for the first of two meetings between the teams this season.  The teams will hit the ice at the Bell Centre in Montreal, home of the Bulldogs’ National Hockey League affiliate the Canadiens.  The Bulldogs enter the week tied with Rochester and Abbotsford for first place in the North Division with 13 points.  Hamilton is led by head coach Randy Cunneyworth, a former Ottawa Senator.  David Desharnais currently leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 13 pionts (three goals and ten assists).  Hamilton’s roster also includes former Binghamton Senators defenseman Neil Petruic.

Saturday, Nov. 6 vs. Adirondack Phantoms (Philadelphia Flyers)

The B-Sens welcome back the Adirondack Phantoms Saturday night, after defeating them in the home opener Oct. 8 (a 5-1 Binghamton victory).  The game also marks the return of former B-Sens captain Denis Hamel, who signed a PTO with the Phantoms early this week.  Patrick Maroon currently leads the Phantoms in scoring, record eight points (five goals, three assists) in nine games.  Adirondack comes to town looking to crawl out of the basement of the East Division.  The Phantoms currently sit in eighth place with a record of 2-8-1 (five points).

Sunday, Nov. 7 vs. Syracuse Crunch (Anaheim Ducks)

The B-Sens welcome the Crunch to town for the first time this season.  The two teams last met back on Oct. 16 in Syracuse (a 2-1 Crunch victory).  The B-Sens hope they can solve Crunch net minder Timo Pielmeier who turned away 31 of 32 Binghamton shots when last they met.  This week the Crunch added NHL veterans Nathan Paetsch and Shean Donovan.  The Crunch’s top scorers – Nick Bonino (two goals, seven assists in eight games) and Kyle Palmieri (seven goals, two assists in nine games) – have both been recalled to Anaheim this week.

Promotions:  The first 3,000 fans in attendance Sunday will receive a B-Sens team photo.

SENS SNIPPETS…

Rookie forward Bobby Butler is tied for third overall on the B-Sens in scoring, first among all Binghamton rookies with seven points (five goals, two assists) in nine games.  The Marlborough, Mass. native’s seven points tie him for eighth place overall among all American Hockey League rookies in scoring.

Defenseman Derek Smith surpassed Chris Kelly on the B-Sens all-time list in games played.  Smith now has 209 games under his belt, ranking him seventh overall in Binghamton Senators history.

B-SENS BRINGING IT HOME TO THE COMMUNITY…

B-Sens forward Corey Locke visited the Magic 101.7 studios in Endwell, N.Y. on Wednesday to promote the B-Sens involvement in the Magic 101.7 Bears and Blankets program.  Fans are encouraged to donate a new teddy bear and/or blanket in any of the collection barrels located throughout the greater Binghamton region.  During the month of December the donations will then be distributed to local children’s organizations.  Locke and his fiancée Chantal Corriveau will help deliver some of the bears to children in local hospitals.

Additionally, fans are encouraged to bring new teddy bears to the B-Sens game on Saturday, Dec. 11 versus Rochester.  Immediately following the B-Sens’ first goal in the game, fans can toss new teddy bears onto the ice.  Teddy bears collected at the game will then be donated to the Bears & Blankets program.

For more information on the program or for a list of locations of the collection barrels visit www.magic1017fm.com.

The B-Sens wives and girlfriends will be decorating a pair of B-Sens themed wreaths which will then be donated to the Wreath Festival and Silent Auction – Door Décor!   The event will be held Sunday, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. at Sons of Italy Hall (126 Odell Ave., Endicott, N.Y.) All proceeds from the auction will benefit CHOW, Mom’s House and the Daughters of Columbus Scholarship Fund.
