Binghamton, N.Y. - New B-Sens head coach Don Nachbaur received a warm welcome Wednesday night at McGirk’s Irish Pub. For many hockey fans in the Binghamton area it had been a long six weeks since Nachbaur signed on as B-Sens head coach on July 17.
Nachbaur arrived in Binghamton over the weekend and has been on the run ever since, checking errands off his to-do list and trying to get settled before leaving for Ottawa Senators training camp on Thursday. The gathering was a nice break for the new B-Sens bench boss.
Coach Nachbaur arrived at 5:30 p.m. to meet with season ticket holders and members of the B-Sens executive staff, before formally being introduced to members of the local media and fans, eager to meet Nachbaur and learn more about what he has to bring to the table.
Nachbaur joined the B-Sens after coaching the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League for the past six seasons. In 432 regular season games with the Americans, Nachbaur has amassed 235 wins, 155 losses, 25 overtime losses and 17 shootout losses. Not to mention that Nauchbaur’s Americans have reached the playoffs in all six seasons he has coached them, including a run to the Western Conference finals in 2007-08. Music to the ears of local hockey fans, who haven’t seen their local team make the playoffs in four seasons now.
“I have been able to make the playoffs each year I have been a head coach. That's something I pride myself in,” explained Nachbaur. “Our coaching staff will work hard and pass that work ethic along to our players."
As a player Nachbaur has skated in 469 games in the American Hockey League, including parts of six seasons as a member of the Hershey Bears. Also, from 2000-01 to 2001-02 Nachbaur served as assistant coach for the AHL’s Philadelphia Phantoms, making him no stranger to Binghamton.
“I know the building. I know that the fans are unbelievable to play in front of, and I know that they want to win. It's been a long summer, and it's time to get going,” said Nachbaur.
It is sure to be an exciting season of Binghamton Senators hockey! Don't miss a second of the action. 2008-09 full-season, half-season tickets, coupon books, 5-game and 10-game plans are on sale now.
