LAST WEEK: The Binghamton Senators (25-16-3-3, 56 pts.) won two of three non-divisional games this past week to climb into sole possession of fourth place in tight East Division standings.
THURSDAY, JAN. 29 @ SAN ANTONIO (2-1 W): Netminder Martin Gerber turned away 37 shots, including 19 shots in the third period, to lead Binghamton the victory. Marc Cavosie netted his fourth marker of the season, as did defenseman Derek Smith. Derek Couture collected his first point as a B-Sen with an assist. The win marked the B-Sens 12th road victory.
FRIDAY, JAN. 30 @ HOUSTON (3-2 L): The B-Sens grabbed an early two-goal lead before Houston rallied with three unanswered goals. Rookie Zack Smith buried his 12th goal of the season for Binghamton’s first tally. Two minutes later Greg Mauldin netted his eighth goal off a feed from Ryan Shannon, his second assist of the game. Smith also assisted giving him a two-point night. Binghamton registered just 23 shots, their lowest shot total in 10 games.
SATURDAY, JAN. 31 vs. SPRINGFIELD (4-2 W): The B-Sens returned from Texas on Saturday and defeated the Springfield Falcons. Derek Couture registered his first two-goal game in the AHL to lead the way. Drew Fata opened the scoring for Binghamton with an unassisted tally, his sixth of the year. Ilya Zubov assisted on both Couture goals. Winger Greg Mauldin sealed the win with a late empty-net goal, his second goal in as many nights. Binghamton’s top-ranked power play was held off the scoreboard.
THIS WEEK: The B-Sens kick off a busy week when they play the first of four consecutive home Wednesday games when the San Antonio Rampage (21-29-0-1, 43 pts.) visit the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena for the first time. Binghamton heads north of the border to take on the Hamilton Bulldogs (28-18-2-0, 58 pts.) on Friday night. The B-Sens return to New York on Saturday to take on the Rochester Americans (16-27-0-4, 36 pts.) before finishing the weekend on Sunday against the Springfield Falcons (16-24-6-1, 39 pts.).
WEDNESDAY, FEB. 4 vs. SAN ANTONIO (7:05 p.m.): The B-Sens look to sweep the season series after downing the Rampage 2-1 last week. Netminder Josh Trodjman has 19 wins for San Antonio. Former B-Sen Alexander Nikulin was recalled by Phoenix over the weekend. San Antonio began a 13-game road trip on Saturday night with a 5-1 loss in Worcester.
FRIDAY, FEB. 6 @ HAMILTON (7:30 p.m.): The B-Sens face Hamilton for the fourth and final time this season. Binghamton won the first two games of the season series before the Bulldogs 5-3 win at the Arena on Saturday, Jan. 24. Left-winger Ilya Zubov has six points (2+4) in three games against Hamilton this season. Hamilton winger Mike Glumac’s 21 goals are tied for eighth in the AHL.
SATURDAY, FEB. 7 @ ROCHESTER (2:05 p.m.): The B-Sens face the Rochester Americans for the 50th time in franchise history on Saturday afternoon, with Binghamton holding the all-time advantage at 27-13-3-3-3 (W-L-T-OTL-SOL). Netminder Jeff Glass has two wins, a 1.50 goals-against-average and a .952 save percentage in two games against the Amerks this year.
SUNDAY, FEB. 8 @ SPRINGFIELD (5:00 p.m.): Binghamton faces the Atlantic Division’s Springfield Falcons for the second and final time on Sunday evening. The game was originally scheduled for Jan. 7 but was postponed due to an ice storm. Derek Couture buried two goals, including the game-winning goal, in Binghamton 4-2 win on Saturday, Jan. 31. The B-Sens are 5-4-0-0 all-time on the road against Springfield.
