BINGHAMTON, NY. – Despite a strong push in the second period, the Binghamton Senators fell 3-2 to the Albany Devils in front of a home crowd at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena Saturday night.

Albany scored two unanswered goals in the first period to take the early 2-0 lead. The first goal came on a Devils’ power play just over five minutes into the game. Former B-Sens forward Carter Camper took control of the puck and found Ty Loney down by the crease to the right of Chris Driedger. Loney centered a feed to Ben Sexton in front of the net who beat Driedger’s glove hand and scored his 12th goal of the year.

The Devils’ second goal came almost two minutes later following a turnover in the neutral zone. Brandon Gormley picked up the puck, brought it down the center taking an initial shot that went off a defender’s skate, and then caught the rebound to put away the goal. Gormley’s second goal of the year sent the B-Sens to the locker room down two despite outshooting the Devils 7-6.

Binghamton answered with two goals of its own just under two minutes apart in the middle frame. Nick Paul held the puck at the left faceoff circle and found Jason Akeson waiting in the center lane in front of the net. Akeson sent a spin around shot under Ken Appleby’s armpit to get the home team on the board. Ben Harpur picked up the secondary assist on Akeson’s third goal of the year.

Max McCormick scored an unassisted goal at the 14:38 mark of the period to tie the game. McCormick took advantage of a partial breakaway skating up the left side in Albany’s zone and released a rocket from the faceoff dot that found the back of the net for his 10th of the year.

Albany converted on the power-play chance again with less than three minutes to play in the second period. Sexton scored the man-advantage tally again after a tic-tac-toe set up from Camper and Gormley. Binghamton went to the locker room down one goal and being outshot by the visiting team 26-16.

There were no scoring changes in the final period and the Binghamton Senators fell 3-2. Driedger stopped 31 shots in the losing effort while Appleby had 21 saves to earn the win.
