BINGHAMTON, NY. – The Binghamton Senators scored two goals in the first 39 seconds of regulation and added four more to pick up a 6-2 win over the Albany Devils on Friday night in front of over 4,000 fans at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.
Binghamton dominated the first period scoring four goals within the first five minutes. Buddy Robinson scored his first goal of the game just 25 seconds after the opening puck drop. Nick Paul intercepted the puck and brought it into the B-Sens zone up along the left wall before finding Robinson in front in the middle who put home his first of the year.
Just 14 seconds later, Patrick Sieloff sent a shot from the blue line through traffic and past the right pad of Albany’s starting goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood. Michael Kostka and Casey Bailey picked up the assists on Sieloff’s first goal of the year.
Almost two minutes later, Robinson scored his second goal of the night after Chris Carlisle forced a turnover along the left side of the offensive zone and found Robinson who skated to the slot and took a shot from in between the dots and beat Blackwood for a 3-0 lead 2:38 into the game.
The B-Sens third goal in under three minutes ended Blackwood’s night momentarily as Scott Wedgewood came in as relief. Curtis Lazar brought the score to 4-0 at the 4:56 mark on a power-play chance after bringing the puck up the right side and putting a shot from the faceoff circle past Wedgewood. Carlisle and Matt O’Connor were awarded the assists on the goal as the B-Sens went to the first intermission up 4-0 and outshooting the Devils 9-7.
The Devils scored two goals over the middle frame to cut the Senators’ lead in half. Petr Straka scored his first of the year after picking up a rebound and dragging it across the crease to put the Devils on the board. Vojtech Mozik and Miles Wood assisted in the first goal of the second period at 7:19. Albany struck again when Brian Gibbons capitalized on the power play at the 16:17 mark. Joe Blandisi centered a feed in front of O’Connor that Gibbons backhanded in with Reece Scarlett getting the secondary assist. The B-Sens held the 4-2 lead heading into the final intermission despite being outshot 14-8.
Binghamton secured the lead in the third period with two final goals. Albany’s goaltender, Wedgewood, suffered an injury late in the final frame and was replaced with Albany’s starting goalie, Blackwood. Alex Krushelnyski scored his first American Hockey League goal with a little over five minutes to play in the third frame. Ryan Rupert pulled away from defenders behind the net and fed Krushelnyski in the hash marks who sent home a one-timer that beat Blackwood on his blocker side.
Bailey made it a one goal, one assist night after scoring his fifth of the year with 25 seconds left in the game. After Rupert was robbed of another chance at a goal, Bailey picked up the puck at the goalmouth and pushed it past a sprawling Blackwood. Matt O'Connor recorded his second win of the season with a 28-save performance along with an assist.
