The Binghamton Senators fell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 4-3 during their first visit to Mohegan Sun Arena in the 2015-16 season. Cole Schneider tallied two goals in the losing effort while goalie Chris Driedger was handed his first loss in the American Hockey League.

Dominik Simon opened the scoring for the host team just 1:30 into the first period with his third goal of the year and lone goal of the opening 20 minutes. The B-Sens entered the first intermission leading the Penguins in shots on goal 13-6 despite trailing 1-0.

Kael Mouillierat doubled the Penguins lead after getting a shot past Driedger just 1:31 into the second period. Chris Carlisle cut the lead in half during his AHL debut with his first goal. Carlisle sent a rocket past Tristan Jarry from the blue line off assists from Fredrik Claesson and David Dziurzynski at the 5:00 mark of the second period. Tyler Biggs brought the two goal lead back to the Penguins at the 6:10 mark, but 23 seconds later Cole Schneider responded with a power-play goal just 3 seconds into the man-up advantage. Schneider tied the game at three a piece on his second power-play goal of the game with just over two minutes remaining in the middle frame.

The teams came into the final period tied 3-3, but Jean-Sebastien Dea gave the Penguins the deciding goal at the 10:56 mark.

Driedger finished the night with 27 saves on 31 shots while Jarry took the win with 25 saves.

Friday, October 30: Utica 7, Binghamton 5
Shots: Utica 29, Binghamton 32
PP: Utica 2-for-7, Binghamton 1-for-5

The Binghamton Senators fell 7-5 to the Utica Comets in their first of eight meetings during the 2015-16 season. The teams combined for 12 goals with five coming in the final period of play.

Jordan Subban opened the scoring for Utica at the 8:05 mark of the first period after firing a wrist shot through a screened Matt O’Connor. The B-Sens tied it up on Tobias Lindberg’s first professional goal 2:30 later with Ryan Dzingel picking up his first assist of the night. Dzingel got the lead for the B-Sens with less than four minutes remaining after intercepting a sloppy pass from Utica’s goalie, Joe Cannata, and putting it in the empty goalmouth.  Utica tied the game back up 16 seconds before time expired with Blair Jones’ first goal of the night. Utica outshot Binghamton 12-10 to start the game.

Comets defenseman Taylor Fedun gave Utica the 3-2 lead with a slap shot from the top of the slot during a two-man up advantage for the visitors. Hunter Shinkaruk pulled the score to 4-2 just under six minutes later directly off a face off in front of O’Connor. Binghamton added one more goal with 1:12 remaining to make it a one-goal game once again going into the final intermission. Danny Hobbs fed Buddy Robinson the puck from the blue line that then found Dziurzynski in front of Cannata and fed a back door shot in to the open net.

Utica moved the score in their favor less than a minute into the final period off of Shinkaruk’s second goal of the night, but Dzingel answered six minutes later with a power-play goal to bring the score to 5-4. Lindberg tied the game up with a breakaway goal and assists from Dzingel and Nick Paul. Jones scored the eventual game-winning tally with just over 7 minutes remaining before Andrey Pedan secured the win for the visitors with an empty net goal pushing the final score to 7-5.

O’Connor finished with 22 saves in his home ice debut while Cannata picked up the win with 27 saves on 32 shots.
