B-Sens Weekly

Friday, April 10: Albany 3, Binghamton 6
Shots: Albany 36, Binghamton 27
PP: Albany 0 for 1, Binghamton 0 for 2

The Binghamton Senators avenged last Sunday’s loss in Albany with a 6-3 win over the Devils on home ice.  Cole Schneider recorded his first professional hat trick while Shane Prince added a goal and an assist to lead the Binghamton scoring attack.

Schneider opened the scoring just shy of the eight minute mark of the first period with his 25th goal of the year off assists from Chris Wideman and Prince.  Binghamton’s Chris Driedger stopped all 12 scoring chances for the Devils in the opening 20 minutes of play to keep the 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Aaron Johnson redirected a shot from Alex Grant past Albany’s Scott Wedgewood 1:41 into the second period to make it 2-0 Binghamton.  Prince made it 3-0 for the hosts less than three minutes later when he corralled a puck poked free by Schneider and lifted it over Wedgewood for his 26th goal of the year.  Schneider notched his second of the night with 6:21 to play in the period before Matthew Zay recorded his first professional goal just 16 seconds later to make it 5-0 Binghamton heading into the final break.

Tim Sestito scored for Albany just 35 seconds into the third to breakup Driedger’s shutout bid.  The Devils went on to score two more goals with the first from Joe Faust at 2:43 followed by Mike Sislo with less than eight minutes to play cut the B-Sens lead to 5-3.  Schneider put the game away with his third of the night on an empty net with just 59 seconds to play to move the final score to 6-3.

Driedger remained perfect in his five starts in net for Binghamton as he stopped 33 of 36 shots faced.  Wedgewood allowed five goals on 27 shots to fall to 12-14-6 on the year.

Saturday, April 11: Utica 2, Binghamton 3 (SO)
Shots: Utica 42, Binghamton 37
PP: Utica 1 for 2, Binghamton 0 for 2

The B-Sens beat the visiting Utica Comets 3-2 Saturday night in their first shootout victory of the season.  Schneider notched his 28th goal of the season in the second period and was the lone skater to score in the shootout to lead Binghamton to the win.

Following a scoreless first period, the Comets grabbed a 1-0 lead just 50 seconds into the middle frame when Hunter Shinkaruk pushed his 14th goal of the year under a sprawling Driedger.  Binghamton drew the score even with Schneider’s tally 6:44 into the period.  Brandon DeFazio broke the tie just shy of the 12 minute mark with his 19th strike of the season, but Buddy Robinson responded less than three minutes later to once again tie the score at 2-2.

Driedger managed to stop a flurry of shots by the Comets throughout the third period to keep the game tied and force overtime.

A back-and-forth sudden-death period did not solve the stalemate, so the teams took to the shootout where Driedger stopped all three Comet shooters to remain unbeaten in six starts with Binghamton this season.
