B-Sens To Induct Three New Members This Friday

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators, in conjunction with the Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame Committee, announced three 2015 inductees.  Scott Allegrino, Bob Moppert and Rob Zamuner will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in a pregame ceremony Friday, March 13, when the B-Sens host the Hershey Bears.

Allegrino, a Binghamton native, began working in the locker room as a young teenager with the Binghamton Whalers and eventually became the Assistant Equipment Manager while still in high school.  After graduating from Seton Catholic Central in 1990, Allegrino left his hometown for the East Coast Hockey League where he worked with the Winston-Salem Thunderbirds, the New Orleans Brass and the Wheeling Nailers.  In 1999 he joined the San Jose Sharks American Hockey League affiliate the Kentucky Thoroughblades before moving with the franchise to Ohio where the team became the Cleveland Barons.  In 2002 Allegrino returned home becoming the Head Equipment Manager for the Binghamton Senators in their inaugural season.  He remained through the 2004-05 before being hired by the B-Sens National Hockey League affiliate the Ottawa Senators at the beginning of the 2005-06 season.  Allegrino is currently finishing up his ninth season as the Head Equipment Manager in Ottawa.  During the offseason, Allegrino and his wife Roberta live in Binghamton with their 10-year old daughter Emily.

Moppert, who passed away in 2011, was a longtime organist for the Broome Dusters as well as the Binghamton Mets.  One of the founding members of the Binghamton Whalers Hall of Fame, which is now called the Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame, Moppert was a dedicated member of the Hillcrest Rotary Club, Broome Community College trustee for years as well as a former Broome County Legislator.  The Chenango Valley High School graduate was a fixture in the “behind the scences” of hockey in Binghamton and the Chairman of the All-Star organizing committee that made the 2008 AHL All-Star Event such a local success.  Moppert, who retired as the Director of Economic Development for New York State in March of 2007, will forever be remembered for his quick wit and ability to energize the crowd through his organ playing. Moppert’s wife, Carol, will be accepting the award on his behalf.

Zamuner, 45, played parts of two seasons with the Binghamton Rangers before moving onto the NHL where he enjoyed a 13 year playing career.  After starting his career with the Flint Spirits of the International Hockey League during the 1989-90 season, he came to Binghamton at the beginning of the 1990-91 season.  Originally drafted by the New York Rangers 45th overall in the 1989 Entry Draft, Zamuner accumulated 155 points, including 44 goals in 141 games over two seasons with Binghamton.  In the summer of 1992, Zamuner signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning where he went on to play seven seasons with the team and named team captain in 1998.  During his 2002-03 season with the Boston Bruins, Zamuner surpassed 700 NHL games played and registered his 300th career NHL point.  His international hockey experience includes a gold medal with Canada at the 1997 World Championships and being a member of the Canadian teams at both the Olympic Winter Games and World Championships in 1998.  Zamuner, who now works for the NHL Players Assocation as a Divisional Player Representative, currently resides in Oakville, Ontario with his wife Ann and their boys Soren, 13, Alex, 12 and their daughter Maeve, 10.
