STRONG SECOND LEADS SENS PAST BEARS

BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Senators overcame a 2-0 first period deficit to comeback for a 5-3 victory over the visiting Hershey Bears.  The B-Sens registered three unanswered goals in the second period while holding the Bears to just 10 shots on goal over the final 40 minutes of play to earn their first regulation victory over their division rival this season.

Hershey jumped out to a 2-0 lead less than five minutes into the first period on goals from Casey Wellman and Tomas Kundratek, respectively.  Hershey outshot Binghamton 19-13 through the first 20 minutes of play to take the two-goal lead into the first intermission break.

Cole Schneider cut the Bears’ lead to 2-1 at 2:50 of the second when he backhanded a feed from Carter Camper past Hershey’s Philipp Grubauer for his 17th goal of the season.  Camper evened the score 2-2 with less than seven minutes to play in the period when he took a feed from Schneider in the slot and beat Grubauer for his eighth of the year.  Less than two minutes later, Binghamton’s power-play unit grabbed the 3-2 lead when Derek Grant tipped a shot from Alex Grant into the back of the net.  The B-Sens went into the final intermission break with the one-goal advantage.

Just past the midway point of the third period, Ryan Dzingel recovered a puck behind the Hershey net before finding Alex Guptill alone in front of Grubauer who beat the Bears’ netminder for his fifth tally of the year to push the score to 4-2.  Hershey’s Philippe Cornet recorded his eighth of the year with less than four minutes to play to cut the B-Sens’ lead to 4-3, but Colin Greening scored an empty-netter with less than 30 seconds to play to push the final score to 5-3 Binghamton.

Shane Prince finished with three assists for the B-Sens while Camper and Schneider each added a goal and an assist.  Scott Greenham stopped 26 of 29 shots faced to earn his 10th win of the year.  Grubauer allowed four goals on 32 shots faced to drop to 19-10-4-5 for the season.

Binghamton travels to Syracuse tomorrow night for a 7:00p.m. matchup versus the Crunch.  Fans can listen live on US Country 96.9FM, watch online at www.ahllive.com, or follow the B-Sens on Twitter @BSens_Hockey for in game updates.
