B-Sens Weekly

Friday, Jan. 16: Syracuse 0, Binghamton 5
Shots: Syracuse 18, Binghamton 40
PP: Syracuse 0 for 2, Binghamton 1 for 3

The Binghamton Senators snapped their season long five-game losing streak with a 5-0 shutout over the visiting Syracuse Crunch.  Andrew Hammond stopped all 18 shots faced to earn his second shutout of the season while Ryan Dzingel and Chris Wideman each had a pair of assists to lead the B-Sens to victory.

Darren Kramer opened the scoring 5:20 into the first period when he notched his second tally of the season taking a feed from Wideman and beating Syracuse goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy glove side.  Matt Puempel doubled Binghamton’s lead with less than eight minutes to play in the first after he beat Vasilevskiy for his 10th score of his sophomore campaign.  Just over a minute later, Buddy Robinson took a cross-ice feed from Dzingel and buried it to move the score to 3-0 before Shane Prince notched a power-play goal with just over 30 seconds remaining in the period to give Binghamton a 4-0 advantage after 20 minutes of play.

The B-Sens added another tally just 2:53 into the middle frame when Max McCormick sent a wrist shot from the right-wing faceoff dot just inside the pipe for his sixth of the year to make it 5-0 and forcing Syracuse to switch goaltenders to Kristers Gudlevskis.

Gudlevskis stopped all 21 shots faced in just over 37 minutes of play, but Hammond answered for Binghamton to preserve the shutout win.

Saturday, Jan. 17: Binghamton 1, Lehigh Valley 5
Shots: Binghamton 29, Lehigh Valley 37
PP: Binghamton 0 for 4, Lehigh Valley 1 for 5

The B-Sens failed to overcome another quick start by the Phantoms as they fell 5-1 in Lehigh Valley on Saturday night.  Nick Cousins scored just 14 seconds into the first period en route to a hat trick performance while Martin Ouellette stopped 28 of 29 shots faced to earn the home victory.

Following Counins’ early first period tally Zack Stortini recorded his sixth of the season at 15:55 to make it 2-0 Phantoms.  Alex Guptill managed to slice to host’s lead in half with less than a minute remaining to send the B-Sens to the first intermission trailing 2-1.

Cousins once again struck early, just 33 seconds into the second to increase the Phantoms advantage to 3-1 before Jay Rosehill made it a 4-1 contest just past the seven minute mark.

Lehigh Valley managed to add one more goal with just over five minutes remaining in regulation to push the final score to 5-1.

Hammond finished with 32 saves on 37 shots faced to fall to 7-12-2 on the year.

Sunday, Jan. 18: Binghamton 6, Springfield 3
Shots: Binghamton 28, Springfield 37
PP: Binghamton 1 for 5, Springfield 1 for 4

The Binghamton Senators ended their busy weekend with a strong 6-3 win over the Eastern League leading Springfield Falcons.  Prince and Robinson each tallied two goals apiece while Peter Mannino earned his first victory as a B-Sen stopping 34 of 37 shots faced.

Following a scoreless first period, the B-Sens tallied three goals over just 3:25 of play to take control.  Robinson opened the scoring 8:40 into the second before David Marshall tallied his first of the season less than two minutes later.  Robinson added his second of the game just past the 12 minute mark to give Binghamton the 3-0 advantage.  The Falcons cut the score to 3-1 just over a minute later, but Prince returned the B-Sens lead to three goals with a power-play strike with just 40 seconds remaining in the second.

Springfield managed to notch two goals through the first 11 minutes of the third period to cut the Binghamton lead to 4-3 but empty-net goals from Puempel and Prince moved the final score to 6-3 B-Sens.

Aaron Johnson and Patrick Mullen each finished with a pair of assists for Binghamton.
