Friday, Dec. 12: Lehigh Valley 1, Binghamton 3

Shots: Lehigh Valley 35, Binghamton 40
PP: Lehigh Valley 0 for 2, Binghamton 1 for 3

Binghamton rallied from an early deficit Friday to score three-unanswered goals en route to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Lehigh Valley Phantoms.  Andrew Hammond stopped 34 of 35 shots faced while Brad Mills scored in his first game of the season after serving a 20-game suspension earlier this year.

The Phantoms took the lead less than two minutes into the first period when Zack Stortini one-timed the puck past Hammond off a feed from Tyler Leier.  Rob Zepp stopped all 14 Binghamton shots in the opening 20 minutes of play to give Lehigh Valley the 1-0 lead heading into first intermission.

Mills tied the game at 1-1 8:23 into the middle frame when he sent a wrist shot from the mid-slot over Zepp’s blocker side.  Just over three minutes later, Fredrik Claesson gave the Sens the 2-1 lead with his second goal of the season off assists from Patrick Mullen and Alex Guptill.  Hammond stopped all 14 Phantoms’ shots in the second to give Binghamton the 2-1 advantage heading into the final period of play.

Following a bench minor call for too many men against Lehigh Valley at 9:32 of the third, the B-Sens power-play unit went to work.  Binghamton needed just 13 seconds on the man advantage before Shane Prince sent home a rebound shot to move the final score to 3-1.

Nine different B-Sens skaters registered a point.

Saturday, Dec. 13: Binghamton 2, Hershey 5
Shots: Binghamton 20, Hershey 32
PP: Binghamton 1 for 7, Hershey 1 for 6

The Binghamton Senators fell 5-2 to its host the Hershey Bears in a heated matchup where the divisional foes combined for 114 penalty minutes.  Chris Conner led the Bears with a goal and three assists while the B-Sens managed just 20 shots on goal through 60 minutes of play.

Hershey opened the scoring 6:03 into the first period when Chris Brown beat Binghamton’s Hammond for his sixth goal of the season.  Philippe Cornet scored at 7:28 to give the Bears a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission. The B-Sens were held to just three shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes of play.

Binghamton cut Hershey’s lead to 2-1 just shy of the eight-minute mark of the second on the power play when Derek Grant redirected a centering feed from Prince past Pheonix Copley for his eighth of the year.  Hershey responded less than one minute later with a power-play goal of its own from Stanislav Galiev before Tim Kennedy restored the two-goal advantage at 9:58 of the second.

Derek Grant notched his second of the night just over one minute into the third period to cut the Bears lead to two, but Conner converted on the empty net with 60 seconds remaining in regulation to push the final to 5-2 Hershey.

Hammond allowed four goals on 31 shots faced while Copley earned the victory stopping 18 of 20.  Derek Grant led Binghamton offensively with two goals while five different Bears’ skaters recorded a multi-point game.

Record: 12-10-2-1 (27 points)
