Wednesday, Nov. 26: St. John’s 4, Binghamton 3 (SO)

Shots: St. John’s 33, Binghamton 45
PP: St. John’s 1 for 3, Binghamton 0 for 1

The B-Sens fell 4-3 in a shootout the day before Thanksgiving despite holding a 3-0 advantage after 40 minutes of play.  Binghamton allowed three straight St. John’s tallies in the opening eight minutes of the third period before being shutout in the shootout competition.

Shane Prince notched the first of his two B-Sens goals 12:30 of the opening period followed by the second coming just shy of the eight minute mark of the second giving the B-Sens a 2-0 lead.  Chris Wideman continued his strong play this season giving Binghamton a 3-0 lead just past the midway point of the middle frame.

John Albert scored his sixth goal of the year 2:34 into the third to start the IceCaps rally.  Carl Klingberg scored an unassisted tally less than two minutes later before Chase Balisy netted the equalizer at 7:52 of the period.

After back and forth chances through both the 4-on-4 and 3-on-3 overtime, the teams went to the shootout.  Greenham stopped the first five attempts from the IceCaps before Kyle MacKinnon wristed one to the back of the net to begin the sixth round.  The IceCaps Connor Hellebuyck denied Ryan Dzingel on his attempt giving St. John’s the bonus point.

Greenham, who appeared in his fourth game of the season, fell to 3-0-1 while stopping 29 St. John’s scoring chances.

Friday, Nov. 28: Binghamton 6, Syracuse 3
Shots: Binghamton 33, Syracuse 28
PP: Binghamton 1 for 3, Syracuse 0 for 2

The B-Sens four third-period goals helped overcome a 3-2 deficit after 40 minutes en route to a 6-3 win over the Syracuse Crunch.  Chris Driedger made his first American Hockey League start, stopping 25 of 28 shots faced to earn the victory.

Cole Schneider recorded two goals in the opening 11 minutes of play to give Binghamton the 2-0 lead on the road.  The Crunch’s Philippe Paradis scored three straight goals in less than five minutes of play with the final on a short-handed penalty shot to give Syracuse a 3-2 lead heading into the first intermission.

Driedger and Syracuse’s Kristers Gudlevskis were both perfect in the second while the teams combined for just 15 shots on goal in the frame to keep the score 3-2 in favor of the Crunch heading into the final period.

Prince beat Gudlevskis 1:50 into the third to even the score before beating the goaltender on the power-play at the eight minute mark to give Binghamton a 4-3 advantage.  Derek Grant scored his sixth of the year with less than three minutes to play before David Dziurzynski added an empty-netter with just over 45 seconds remaining to push the final score to 6-3.

Prince finished with two goals and an assist to lead Binghamton to its first victory over the Crunch this season.

Saturday, Nov. 29: Rochester 3, Binghamton 4
Shots: Rochester 34, Binghamton 34
PP: Rochester 0 for 1, Binghamton 1 for 4

Binghamton carried its strong play from Friday back home Saturday surviving a late scare from Rochester en route to a 4-3 win.  Greenham made his fifth appearance of the season in net for the B-Sens stopping 31 of 34 shots while ten different Binghamton skaters registered a point during the night.

Prince scored his fifth goal in just three games with less than two minutes to play in the opening period to give Binghamton the 1-0 advantage heading to first intermission.

Matt Puempel scored 1:34 into the second off a nice feed from Danny New to make it 2-0 Binghamton.  Dziurzynski picked up his second in as many contests with less than five minutes to play in the period to give the B-Sens a 3-0 lead heading into the final frame.

The Amerks scored twice in the opening 14 minutes of the third to cut Binghamton’s lead to just a goal.  First Drew Bagnall beat Greenham with a wrist shot at 3:40 before Mikhail Grigorenko sent a shot from the point to the back of the net with less than seven minutes to play.  Jean-Gabriel Pageau regained a two-goal cushion for the B-Sens when he fired a laser past the Amerks Nathan Lieuwen on a 2-on-1 break with just over three minutes to go.  With Lieuwen on the bench for an extra Rochester skater, Jordan Samuels-Thomas pushed a loose puck under Greenham with just over two minutes remaining, but the B-Sens held on the remainder of the way for the 4-3 win.

Record: 8-8-2-1 (21 points)

Standings: Binghamton earned five of a possible six point in three games last week to move into third place in the East Division.  The B-Sens, who are 4-0-0-1 over its past five games, are now within five points of division leading Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (12-8-1-1, 26 points).  Hershey (11-8-1-1, 26 points) remains in second place.  Lehigh Valley (9-8-2-0, 20 points) trails Binghamton by just a single standings point while Norfolk (9-12-0-0, 18 points) still sits in last place having lost six of their past 10 contests.
