LAST WEEK…

Wednesday, Nov. 5: Binghamton 0, Utica 1
Shots: Binghamton 19, Utica 34
PP: Binghamton 0 for 1, Utica 0 for 1

Binghamton traveled to Utica last Wednesday for its third meeting with the Comets this season falling by the slimmest of margins 1-0.

Nicklas Jensen scored the games lone tally 13:41 into the first period off assists from Dustin Jeffrey and Bobby Sanguinetti.

Binghamton’s Andrew Hammond played strong in net stopping 33 of 34 shots faced, but Jacob Markstrom was perfect stopping all 19 shots faced for his fourth shutout of the season.

Friday, Nov. 7: Binghamton 3, Rochester 1
Shots: Binghamton 35, Rochester 25
PP: Binghamton 0 for 3, Rochester 0 for 3

Binghamton rebounded from Wednesday’s setback in Utica with a 3-1 victory over the Rochester Americans.  Hammond allowed just a single goal for the second straight game while Patrick Mullen and Carter Camper led the B-Sens offensively with a pair of assists each.

Rochester opened the scoring when Mikhail Grigorenko took a feed from Joel Armia at 11:36 of the first period.  The Amerks held the 1-0 advantage through the first 20 minutes of play as Nathan Lieuwen stopped all 10 of Binghamton’s shots in the first frame.

Ryan Dzingel evened the score 1-1 10:58 into the second with his third goal of the season.  Mullen sent a slap shot towards the Amerks crease that was mishandled by Lieuwen, and Dzingel was in position to push the loose puck home.

The game remained tied 1-1 until the seven minute mark of the third when Alex Guptill sent a feed from Camper past Lieuwen to give the B-Sens their first lead of the contest.  Shane Prince gave Binghamton an insurance tally just with under seven minutes remaining to move the final to 3-1.

Saturday, Nov. 8: Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 6, Binghamton 4
Shots: Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 29, Binghamton 34
PP: Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 2 for 3, Binghamton 4 for 5

Despite notching four power-play goals, the B-Sens fell 6-4 to the visiting Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Saturday night.  The Penguins used three unanswered second period goals to build a 4-1 lead before hanging on for the divisional victory.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s power-play unit opened the scoring 12:21 into the first when Bryan Rust beat Hammond for his fifth goal of the year. Mullen responded for Binghamton just over two minutes later with a power-play strike of his own off helpers from Chris Wideman and Matt Puempel sending the teams to the first intermission tied 1-1.

The Penguins notched three goals in less than a five-minute span to take a 4-1 lead.  The B-Sens used a pair of power-play goals, one from Wideman at 11:54 and another from Puempel at 17:41, over the closing eight minutes of play in the second to shrink the Penguins lead to 4-3 heading to the third.

Despite being outshot 18-7 in the final period, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton managed to add to its lead 11:21 into the third off Andrew Ebbett’s third goal of the year.  Carter Rowney made it a three goal game with less than three minutes to play before Puempel knocked home his second of the night on the power play with 18 seconds remaining moving the final to 6-4.

Wideman continued his strong play scoring once and contributing of the other three B-Sens tallies while Puempel finished with two goals and an assist.

Record: 4-7-2-0 (10 points)

Standings: Through 13 games the B-Sens remain tied with the Norfolk Admirals (5-7-0-0, 10pts.) for fourth place in the East Division.  Lehigh Valley sits in third place with a 5-5-1-0 record (11 points) over 11 games played.  Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (8-5-1-0, 17 points), who won three straight, hold a two point lead on Hershey (7-5-1-0, 15 points) for tops in the division.
