Binghamton Extends Affiliation with Ottawa

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators announced today it has reached an agreement with its parent National Hockey League club, the Ottawa Senators, to remain their American Hockey League affiliate.  The agreement will keep the B-Sens the top affiliate for Ottawa through the next five seasons.

The extension will keep Ottawa’s developmental players with Binghamton through the 2018-19 season.
“The relationship between the B-Sens and the Ottawa Senators has strengthened and really solidified over recent years”, said Tom Mitchell, Executive Vice President of Operations for Binghamton.  “We have every intention of maintaining the high standards required by the AHL and remaining a top notch environment for Ottawa’s young players to develop in.”

Ottawa, who has been affiliated with Binghamton since AHL hockey returned in 2002, was also pleased with the relationship amongst the two organizations.

“We’ve been very pleased with the development of our young players who have progressed through Binghamton over the last number of seasons,” said Senators general manager Bryan Murray. “Having a strong affiliate that gives our players the opportunity to learn how to be a professional and the chance to compete to win each and every night is a tremendous asset to future of our organization. We’re very pleased to know they will be our affiliate for five more seasons.”

“This relationship is great for Ottawa on a number of levels,” said Randy Lee, Ottawa Senators assistant general manager and general manager of the B-Sens. “Binghamton’s proximity to Ottawa and our great working relationship with the B-Sens ownership team made extending our agreement with them something of significant importance to us. We look forward for a number of great seasons to come.”

Binghamton, who has over 40 years of AHL Hockey dating back to the original Broome Dusters in the late 1970’s, has a strong community backing.  “We're so fortunate to have the Binghamton Senators as part of our community, especially given our size,” said Senator Tom Libous. “Five more seasons of the Senators is wonderful and we'll be there to cheer them on.”

The 2014-15 season marks the 13th year that Ottawa has developed its young talent in Binghamton.  Players currently playing with the NHL Senators who spent time with the B-Sens include Erik Karlsson, Robin Lehner, Mika Zibanejad, Jared Cowen and Zack Smith.  Through 12 seasons in the AHL, the B-Sens have established an overall record of 452-381-18-49-48 (W-L-T-OTL-SOL).
