B-SENS WEEKLY RELEASE (WEEK 13)

LAST WEEK: The Binghamton Senators (19-11-3-3, 44 pts.) rang in the New Year with a solid week, taking two of three games to solidify their position in the East Division race.

TUESDAY, DEC. 30 @ SYRACUSE (5-2 W): The B-Sens notched their fifth straight win against I-81 rival Syracuse as they converted on four power-play chances. Defenseman Tomas Kudelka buried a career-high two goals and added one assist to lead Binghamton. The B-Sens racked up a season-high 38 penalty minutes. Denis Hamel scored the game-winning goal, while Greg Mauldin chipped in a short-handed tally. Derek and Zack Smith each finished the night with two assists. Netminder Brian Elliott turned away 23 shots to earn the win.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 31 vs. ALBANY (2-1 L): Binghamton lost its first regulation game to Albany on New Year’s Eve despite a 35-save effort by Brian Elliott. Albany outshot Binghamton 19-3 in the second period. The B-Sens battled back from a 2-0 deficit with a power-play goal from Danny Bois. The B-Sens outshot the River Rats 16-6 in the final period but couldn’t put home the tying goal.

FRIDAY, JAN. 2 vs. HOUSTON (4-0 W): The Aeros visited the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena for the first time and were sent home with a 4-0 defeat at the hands of the B-Sens. Brian Elliott posted a 21-save shutout, his second of the season. Ryan Shannon had a two-point night (1+1) to extend his point streak to four games (2+3). Josh Hennessy snapped a seven-game goal scoring drought with a power-play tally. Marc Cavosie netted his second goal of the season, while Peter Regin buried his sixth. With the victory, the B-Sens are now 10-1-1-1 against the Western Conference this season.

THIS WEEK: The B-Sens hit the road for a Wednesday contest against the Atlantic Division’s Springfield Falcons (13-19-4-1, 31 pts.). With wins against Portland and Worcester earlier this season, the B-Sens look for their third victory over an Atlantic Division squad. Binghamton returns home on Friday night to kick off a six-game homestand when the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (22-12-1-1, 46 pts.) visit the Arena for the second time this year. The B-Sens finish the week by hosting the Rochester Americans (11-22-0-3, 25 pts.) for the first time this season.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 7 @ SPRINGFIELD (7:00 p.m.): The B-Sens make their lone trip to Springfield to take on the Falcons. Binghamton is 5-4-0-0 all-time against the Falcons in Springfield. The Falcons are 1-8-1-0 over their last 10 games. Center Ryan Potulny leads the offense for Springfield with 17 goals and 14 assists. Netminder Devan Dubnyk leads the league in games played (33), minutes (1932), losses (20) and shots against (997).

FRIDAY, JAN. 9 vs. WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON (7:05 p.m.): The Penguins finished 2008 with a bang, winning their last five games of the year and going 8-2-0-0 over their last 10. Chris Minard has a league-leading 26 goals in 30 games. He also leads the AHL in power-play goals (13) and game-winning goals (7). Binghamton downed Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 4-2 on Nov. 14 at the Arena. Danny Bois and Denis Hamel both tallied for Binghamton.

SATURDAY, JAN. 10 vs. ROCHESTER (7:05 p.m.): The B-Sens welcome the Americans to the Arena for the first of four games this season. Rochester has rebounded from a tough start and is 6-3-0-1 in their last 10 games. Netminder Mike Brodeur has been between the pipes for Rochester’s last eight wins. The B-Sens are 5-0-1-0 in their last six games at home against Rochester.
