Friday, Oct. 11: Norfolk 5, Binghamton 0
Shots: Norfolk 24, Binghamton 33
PP: Norfolk 4 for 12, Binghamton 0 for 6

The Binghamton Senators played its first road game of the 2013-2014 campaign and suffered a 5-0 loss to East Division rival, the Norfolk Admirals.

In his first start of the season, Sens goalie Andrew Hammond surrendered all five goals in only twenty minutes of action.  Norfolk’s Devante Pelly-Smith started the scoring 5:44 into the opening period on a shorthanded tally.  From there the Admirals added four power-play goals, three from defensemen Alex Grant, in a span of 4:58 to end the period.

Nathan Lawson came in as relief for the Sens to start the second period, but by then the damage had been done.  Lawson was perfect, stopping all ten shots he faced the rest of the way, however the Sens could not get their offense going all night, despite outshooting Norfolk 33-24.

Fredrik Andersen played flawless for the Admirals stopping all 33 B-Sens shots in route to his second victory of the season.  Both teams combined for 120 penalty minutes.

Saturday, Oct. 12: Norfolk 1, Binghamton 4
Shots: Norfolk 24, Binghamton 30
PP: Norfolk 0 for 2, Binghamton 0 for 3

The B-Sens rebounded in a big way Saturday night in route to a 4-1 win over Norfolk.  Playing in his first game of the season, Darren Kramer got the Senators rolling when he took a feed from Matt Puempel in the middle of the circles and blasted home his second career American Hockey League tally at 7:59 of the first period.  Nathan Lawson continued his netminding duties from the night before, stopping five Norfolk shots while John Gibson took over goaltending for the Admirals and squashed eight of the nine Senators chances in the first period.

After intermission it took the B-Sens just eleven seconds to get things rolling again.  Off the opening faceoff of the second period, Mika Zibanejad carried the puck deep into the Admiral’s zone and crossed a pass to Mike Hoffman who found a charging Petersson.  Petersson painted the top shelf before Gibson had a moment to react, doubling the B-Sens lead to 2-0.  Norfolk would cut that lead to one before the end of the period on a goal from Rickard Rakell at 18:02.  The B-Sens outshot the Admirals 13-6 in the period.

The final period was the only one Norfolk generated more shots on net than Binghamton, however Lawson played alert and turned away all 13 chances the Admirals sent his way.  Derek Grant extended the Sens lead to 3-1 at 4:35 off a feed from David Dziurzynski.  Jim O’Brien added a shorthanded empty netter with under a minute remaining to secure the 4-1 victory and send Binghamton back home with two points and a series split.

Nathan Lawson stopped 23 of 24 shots faced to earn his second victory of the year.  Gibson made 26 saves on 29 shots faced in the losing effort.

Record: 2-1-0-0

Standings: The B-Sens are currently in third place in the East Division with four points.  Norfolk sits in second with five, while Wilkes-Barre/Scranton holds the top spot with six points and a perfect 3-0 record.
