HALL OF FAME INDUCTIONS SET FOR MARCH 17

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators announced today that on Saturday, March 17 they will recognize the 2012 Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame inductees Mike Busniuk, Chris Ferraro and Peter Ferraro.

Busniuk and the Ferraro brothers will be formally inducted into the Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame in an ice-level ceremony at 7 p.m., just prior to the B-Sens game versus the Rochester Americans.  The 2012 inductees will then sign autographs on the main concourse of the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena during the game’s first intermission.

Busniuk’s pro coaching career began in the Southern Tier where he served as an assistant coach with the Binghamton Rangers for four seasons (1993-97). When the franchise moved to Hartford, CT, in 1997, Busniuk remained as the assistant coach for another five seasons with the New York Ranger-affiliated Wolf Pack. He helped head coach John Paddock lead Hartford to a Calder Cup championship in the 1999-2000 campaign.

The Thunder Bay, Ont. native returned to Binghamton in 2003 and spent seven seasons behind the bench as an assistant coach of the Senators.

Busniuk was the Montreal Canadiens’ 10th pick (67th overall) in the 1971 NHL Entry Draft. The Thunder Bay, Ontario, native appeared in 143 NHL games, all with Philadelphia after being signed as a free agent by the Flyers in October of 1977. His American Hockey League career spanned 397 games with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs and the Maine Mariners in which he registered 160 career points. Busniuk is one of four people in AHL history to win five Calder Cup championships as a player, and the only one to capture four consecutive cups.

Identical twin brothers Chris and Peter Ferraro spent parts of three seasons with the Binghamton Rangers (1994-97).

Chris recorded 67 goals and 105 assists for 172 points in 143 career games with the Rangers. He posted AHL career highs in assists (67), points (99) and penalty minutes (208) during the 1995-96 season.

Chris was the New York Rangers’ fourth-round pick (85th overall) in the 1992 NHL draft. His AHL career spanned 507 games with eight different teams. He was awarded the Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award in recognition of his sportsmanship, determination and dedication to hockey, as a member of the Portland Pirates during the 2002-03 season.

Peter recorded 88 goals and 98 assists for 186 points in 155 career games with the Rangers. He achieved AHL career highs in goals (48), assists (53) and points (101) during the 1995-96 season and a career high 171 penalty minutes during the 1996-97 season.

Peter was the New York Rangers’ first-round pick (24th overall) in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. His AHL career spanned 620 games with eight different teams. During the 1998-99 season, he was named the AHL’s most valuable player as a member of the Providence Bruins.

Natives of Port Jefferson, N.Y., the Ferraro brothers were also three time AHL All-Stars. The brothers both represented the Binghamton Rangers at the 1997 AHL All-Star classic in St. John, N.B.

With the additions of Busniuk and the Ferraro brothers the Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame will have 37 members. Included in its membership are former Broome Dusters and Binghamton Whalers goaltender Ken Holland, Broome Dusters founder and owner Jim Matthews and Binghamton Whalers center and 1982-83 American Hockey League most valuable player Ross Yates.

Tickets for the March 17 game are $18.50 for side seating, $17.50 for end seating. Fans can purchase tickets at www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 1-800-745-3000 or in person at the Binghamton Senators’ executive office or the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena box office.
